Hi all,
Does anyone know anything about Norman Ellison carpets? NZ brand I think. Haven't heard of them, so wondering if they are high quality. Anyone have this brand in their home?

Surely you must know something!! If not I'll take my bat and ball and go home.. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 4May 31, 2008 10:01 pm Does that mean I actually have to get off my a*** and do something for myself? I'll look into it (maybe shouldn't have been lazy and done that in the first place!) I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 6Jun 04, 2008 5:22 pm Ok Ash,
Spent most of this afternoon reading through the flooring forum and I've pulled up this thread because I've got some questions for you. I know you're going to tell me I'm doing something stupid but anyway. I'm probably going to be saying and asking things in the wrong context but I know you won't be shy in correcting me. I found out about this brand Norman Ellison. They are NZ and the only privately owned manufacturer in NZ and they have their own mill. Pretty good rep in NZ from what I gather. Manufacture to international standard ISO 9001 Carries the woolmark brand. The carpet I like is rated heavy duty plus stairs. It's a geographical loop. 100% wool. 40oz (does that sound right? I can't read my writing on the paper) The colour is a mid grey/taupe colour. More on the grey side. This carpet will go in the bedrooms, lounge and play room. Tiles everywhere else (don't start, at least it's not wooden flooring!). Two bedrooms and the living room have to the floor windows. (yeah I know what you are going to say!). There will be one child, one evil cat and three dogs. Animals will be primarily confined to the tiled areas. Yes, they have beds they know to lay on. Does this sound like the correct carpet for the household needs? Also I need to get a new vacuum cleaner so I guess you are going to tell me to get a Hepa (junk?) sorry had to get one in!! Any info or advice would help. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Haven't heard of them, so wondering if they are high quality. Anyone have this brand in their home? Jo I haven’t heard of them either! But then, they are a NZ company. Do they market over here? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 9Jun 04, 2008 6:19 pm OK I had contacted a mate of mine recently who is a Woolsafe Inspector in Palmerston, NZ. He runs a quality carpet cleaning business, and is in the know. This is what he said...
"I understand that they are a small NZ niche manufacturer. I’ve done work for them and they are great to deal with in my limited experience with them. They only make wool/wool rich carpets I believe. Is there anything specific that you’re looking for?" I also had a look at their site. Sounds like a quality wool carpet manufacturer. Any other specs or a link to the specific carpet you like? The thing is, you would have to be very vigilant and careful to ensure pets don't damage the carpets. If there are risks of damage like toileting accidents, clawing from cat etc, it could be a valuable investment ruined within a few years. Maybe a quality solution dyed nylon might be a better choice? Ash. Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 10Jun 04, 2008 6:25 pm As a NZ based company I would expect ONLY quality wool carpet!
Their wool is far more superior to ours….that’s why all our carpets are made from ZN wool. What’s wrong with our little sheep????! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 11Jun 04, 2008 6:33 pm Australia produces much finer wool that is most suitable for clothing. Wool for carpets must be much more course. NZ and Scotland are known to breed the sheep that produce the best wool for carpets.

Thanks Ash for comments. On the site it is the Aztec one. Sounds like I'm on the right track then. The pets are no worries. Dogs perfectly house trained and the cat doesn't claw anything. He is a particularly strange animal. I'm actually really only interested in wool. Don't want a solution dyed nylon. You didn't say about the vac though. I need to get one soon so I may as well get what will suit the carpet in the new house. It looks like I'll go with Norm. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 16Jun 04, 2008 11:15 pm Best vacuum depends on the carpet. I've looked at the Norm Ellinson site, but it doesn't give a real description of the Aztec. Need details before I suggest a vac, but the Dyson range is hard to beat.
So give me lots of specs please. I'm a bit of a specs addict! Ash. x Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 17Jun 04, 2008 11:22 pm Ash,
I've given all I've got. Know nothing else. I know how seriously you take your carpets, but as long as it's good quality and will do the job and look beautiful, I'm happy. I know you'll give me a talking down that I'm not taking my carpeting needs seriously blah, blah, blah, blah...... But I think I'm pretty happy with this choice now that you've endorsed it. It actually was a really nice carpet and apparently it's used in displays sometimes which is strange considering it doesn't sound like it's common. Both you and Michelle hadn't heard of it?! Jo xxxxx (right back at ya!) I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 19Jun 04, 2008 11:50 pm I really don't enjoy being called dear.
Read the posts Ash, I clearly stated it was a geographical loop. That means it is a loop pile with a pattern. Did you know that? I have seen the sample but don't currently have it so not sure of the backing sorry. Jo (withholding x at this point) I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Norman Ellison carpets? 20Jun 05, 2008 12:16 am Dear dear!
OK it should be a very nice carpet. Suggest a Dyson canister model with HEPA for you. (Uprights with revolving brushes are not recommended for loop pile carpets, although they are more effective). Not sure of latest models, but look around. After you've worked out which one, shop around and you should be able to get $100-150 off. NOTE: This carpet style requires a skilled & experienced layer. Be assertive with sales staff, and tell them you want the best layer available. Otherwise seams can look crap. Happy now? |
