Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 30, 2014 3:12 pm Hi All, I have just purchased a new house in West Footscray, VIC. As a part of my initial renovation i will be gutting the kitchen and the floor coverings. Currently we have a mix of carpet and lino which is stuck to a thin layer of masonite. I want to get to the hardwood underneath. My main issue is, over the years the house has had its layout altered in a number of ways. I am unsure what to expect of the hardwood underneath and am expecting there has been a number of patch ups. There has been walls moved and a bathroom moved, so i expect there to be a number of different types of timbers running in opposite directions. What are my best options to cover these up? We have been thinking to stain the timber black, as we love the look of dark floors albeit alot of work in the cleaning department. Any help would be great. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 16057 The most likely cause of your timber swelling (parquetry?) is either a plumbing leak or carelessly leaving water on floors after use or both. Without seeing, i am ignoring… 1 3328 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7450 |
