Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 11, 2014 5:33 pm Hi, We are building our first new home and are 99% sold on the quickstep colonial. Was wanting some feedback from people that have previously installed it on how it has performed & did you instal it in the kitchen (we are having open plan) Thanks Lou Re: Quickstep Colonial Laminate Spotted Gum 2May 11, 2014 6:25 pm Have not used it but had a look at their website. Like most laminates, they don't recommend it is allowed to get wet. It does sound better than some, but we ripped up our laminate flooring the previous owners put in (immediately prior to selling) because it was swelling like nothing else and we were always careful to not get it wet in the kitchen. It would have been down just over 6 months in total. So I'd be very cautious ever putting a laminate in a kitchen unless totally waterproof, which do exist. Re: Quickstep Colonial Laminate Spotted Gum 3May 12, 2014 4:02 pm We had laminate in a previous kitchen, it was fine. Don't flood the floors, but a minor spill (cleaned up straight away) was fine. I did hear that after the property was sold that the dishwasher busted, flooded the open plan kitchen/dining/family area and the whole floor had to be ripped up and replaced. Mind you, this happened to my dad's hallway when a pipe burst in the wall - it was carpet and all had to be ripped up. Water doesn't mix well with anything, bar bare concrete or tiles! If it's a genuine water leak from a burst pipe (or for leaving tap running etc, and you have Accidental Damage on your building insurance) resultant damage is claimable. Just bear in mind that they will only replace undamaged sections and will only match materials for a uniform effect in the same room/area. It's not common that it'll get to that situation with everyday use though, so dont let it deter you too much.
