Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 19, 2014 8:45 pm We are having cypress pine flooring for our new home. I like the darker colour of timber and would like to stain the floor, my husband would like to just use clear and keep the natural colour. His reason being that when we need to re-sand and re-coat the floor in years to come we may not be able to get the same colouring throughout. What have other people done, how did it turn out, does anyone have photos, any ideas would be great, thanks so much. Bear in mind that natural timber does darken over time. The pic shows the tone of the floor clear polished, it turned out a mid golden brown, which blended withall the various tones of my wood furniture. The finish is matt. Hard to believe, it's so glossy. I didn't need or want a real mirror shine. If you want to stain it, I think you'd need professional advice. If you want to keep the colour of the timber use a water based product (eg Bona), the solvent based finishes (aside from being toxic) end up yellowing - like the picture, and you are only seeing the colour of the finish not the floor. Cypress is actually quite a lighter timber than that and looks great in it's more original form. Thanks for the advice Namtrak, much appreciated.
