Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 02, 2014 2:53 pm We have a downstairs section yet to be finished. Standard flooring options are out of our budget for now, but I've lately come across forums where people have used plywood sheeting as an alternative to hardwood flooring. While I accept that plywood won't be as durable, I'm (pleasantly) surprised to learn that it has been used as a cheap alternative, stained and finished with polyurethane. I have a lasercutter on hand, and I'm interested in the possibilities of creative parquetry that would otherwise be way out of our league pricewise. Does anyone have advice (other than "don't do it") as to how maximise plywood's durability, and what prep work should be done prior to laying it down? We have a concrete floor. Re: Plywood as finished flooring 2Apr 04, 2014 9:31 pm ply is extremely durable- what makes you think it will be less durable then the timber species its made of? On concrete you can just glue it down provided the concrete isn't brand new- or batten up & nail down but that adds height.
