Hello. Has anyone used synthetic sisal rugs/floor coverings? How is it in terms of stain resistance and wear compared to natural sisal? Any ideas whether it is available in Brisbane.
Thankyou.

I need to clarify.... There are the natural floorcoverings and rugs (usually made from sisal, seagrass or coir etc). Then there are many varieties of carpets that are loosely described as 'sisal style'. The first are usually very hard and textured. Kneel on one and you know what I mean. The second group are simply carpets made to simulate the texture and style. The usually have rows of loops tufted at different heights, giving it a ribbed appearance. What are you looking for & why? Sisal styled carpets may be made from wool, wool mixed with synthetics, polypropylene, or solution dyed nylon (SDN). They will vary in performance, but generally are not very aesthetically forgiving (as the linear design tends to show any blemish). Ash. Re: Synthetic sisal 3May 21, 2008 10:35 am thankyou very much Ash. I am looking for a rug to go under the dining table. I really like the look of sisal and coir but am worried about it getting stained/ruined very quickly as I have small kids eating at the table. I found a website www.sisalcarpets.com and as you indicate below they have a range of synthetic sisal style carpets. I thought these would be better than natural sisal in the place where I want to put them but do you think otherwise?
Thankyou for your advice, rrama Re: Synthetic sisal 4May 21, 2008 10:49 am Natural cellulose type floorcoverings are expensive and are a poor choice. They are very difficult to maintain and clean effectively. Most carpet cleaners won't touch them with a barge pole, as they shrink if they get a whiff of water! Those promoting and selling them should be hung by the fingernails
Sisal styled carpets..... Have to say I'm personally over them. They have been popular for several years, and I'm constantly dealing with customers probs with them. Some aren't bad, but I'm looking forward to trends moving away from this style. Your choice tho' Ash.
