Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 20, 2014 4:10 pm Has anybody had experience with refinishing a Mosowood Bamboo floor? We had this laid in a few large rooms just over a year ago, and I'm afraid the glossy finish has just become unmaintainable for us. It shows every footprint, pawprint (2 dogs), etc. We're yet to find a product that we can actually clean it with and not show streaks afterwards. Two of the rooms are exposed to lots of natural light where it is worst (unfortunately not a characteristic we could see in the showroom). Edit: appears they are semi-gloss; would hate to see what the full gloss was like!! Our thought was to try and very lightly sand it and put a more satin/matte-finish coating on it that may show less of the glare. According to the Mosowood FAQ's they can be sanded and refinished 'as you would for traditional hardwood flooring'. Has anybody tried this themselves? How did it turn out? We've also ended up with cloudy areas which appear to be a result of humidity from dogs sitting on dog beds which is less than impressive for a high end flooring. Ironically the scratching, which we feared would be our biggest issue with the dogs, hasn't been an issue at all - the only scratches have been due to carelessly moving furniture. Re: Refinishing a Mosowood Bamboo Floor 2Jan 21, 2014 4:09 pm We have Bamboozle floors and have the same issue particularly in summer when evryone is running around barefoot. Clean it with a spray of water and metho with the Enjo mop and five minutes later it'sa covered in footprints so will be interested to see answers. Re: Refinishing a Mosowood Bamboo Floor 3Jan 24, 2014 3:34 pm Got some great information from the supplier, which hopefully will help to solve the issue. The floors naturally shouldn't show foot/paw prints and such in the way that we're seeing. They recommend cleaning them with ONLY water (from a spray bottle) and a microfibre mop (such as Enjo). Using cleaners apparently builds up a shiny residue which causes the reflective issues that we're seeing. He was good enough to forward me cleaning info which is normally supplied when fitted (which wasn't to us by the carpet store we used). Fingers crossed this might improve the situation - will try it out with regular cleaning with water for a couple of weeks and report back. Re: Refinishing a Mosowood Bamboo Floor 4Jan 25, 2014 4:47 pm Ok, didn't need a couple of weeks. A good scrub a couple of times with warm water from a spray bottle and a new microfibre pad on the mop and it's like a different floor. I guess our mistake was looking for a 'product' to resolve our issues rather than just using water. What would have shown footprints instantly previous now shows nothing at all. The level of shine has immediately dropped, so I guess the product residue was giving it that extra reflective property. Egads, such a simple solution Re: Refinishing a Mosowood Bamboo Floor 5Jan 26, 2014 12:21 pm Thanks for posting this as we are laying bamboo in all rooms except bathroom and laundry. Don't be embarrassed that its a simple solution - be happy you asked the question before doing something dramatic like sand it back Researching a build in South Australia from Sydney.
