Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 13, 2014 4:12 pm HELP PLEASE! We have decided on solid timber flooring, but have now been made aware of a pre-finished which has been polished in a factory and therefore only needy to be laid and are ready to walk on and put furniture on straight away or there is un-finished which is sanded and polished onsite, with a possible 2 weeks before being able to put furniture on it. Do they last as long do they look the same? Does anyone have any experience with the pre finished? I am now confused as to what to put down . Thanks Re: Pre-Finished solid timber V's un-Finished solid timber 2Jan 24, 2014 8:52 am Hi, we had solid timber on battens previously. Now we are going for engineered click style. It's a real hassle moving furniture etc when the re-polish comes due. The sanding is also very messy even though they take a lot of precautions, still there's dust everywhere no matter how well they try to avoid it (cos it's so fine). We had to barricade ourselves in the tiled parts of the house, the fumes of the polish aren't too wonderful either as I am sensitive to chemicals. With the engineered its so easy to replace a board or two if needed. Looks great too. The only thing I will miss is the creaking of the boards and how well wood cushions your legs and back when on battens (the creaking apparently drives some people crazy but I liked it!) Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15887 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8289 We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild. It would achieve a pretty low rent as it's… 0 13744 |
