Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 14, 2013 4:23 pm Hi all I just need some floorboard advice. We had our tassie oak floors sanded, filled and water base polished about 6 weeks ago and the guys used a very light colour wood filler that didn't match our floors so our floors look like someone has just scattered clay all over them. They told us to mop with water regularly and by 2 months the filler will darken. I have mopped everyday and I have seen no change at all! I want to get the guys to come back and fix their terrible work but I don't see how they can refil the areas with the right colour filler without having to remove the old, there is way too many spots to do that! So my question is how else could this be fixed. I was thinking A) redo with an oil base high gloss- would the oil base deepen the colour of the filler enough? B) introduce a stain Are these options appropriate, which would be better and any other solutions? HELP!!!! TIA Re: Repairing bad flooring polish job 3Nov 15, 2013 10:55 am So you dont think the filler will take a stain? Hopefully you can view this. This is one of the better areas, the whole hallway is dotted like this as well as lots of cracks in the timber filled in this colour. http://s1180.photobucket.com/user/hmvu1 ... sort=3&o=0 Thanks! Re: Repairing bad flooring polish job 4Nov 15, 2013 4:54 pm That looks very ordinary! Way too light filler. I still say the colour won't change, but the timber may be damaged if you keep on mopping it! As the vanish gets older, it will generally get darket also. I'm not an expert, but the only way to fix is to sand it back, dig out the putty and then reapply darker putty over the holes again. You shouldn't have paid them until you were happy with the finish. Overall, if they aren't coming back to fix it and you have already moved it, I'll just live with it and fix it later on. Re: Repairing bad flooring polish job 5Nov 16, 2013 4:05 pm Ditto to above..... I think they have duped you with the task of "mopping it to darken it"...taken your money and exited the building The filler is obviously way too light and as it is under the sealer it is protected from the moisture they suggested would darken it. I would be having a go at getting them back to fix it.....which will be a difficult task - getting them back that is. I hope you end up with a good result. I think I can get them to come back as they said to call them in 2 months if I wasn't satisfied. Anyway Internet is a powerful tool, they get a lot of business via Serviceseeking so a bad review and these photos on there would not go well! Cross fingers anyway. I know they will dupe me with the way they plan to fix it. There are way to many areas filled in to dig out and fill in again, i think it will end up worse! I was thinking I could get them to sand it back, maybe get someone more experienced and professional to tint it and then they can recoat. It makes me furious that I will have to spend more but I can't live with the floors in this state! Our home has just been fully renovated and the floors just really let it down!! Re: Repairing bad flooring polish job 7Nov 18, 2013 11:01 am So I rang the guys this morning after thinking about this all weekend and they said they would come back to fix it. I asked how they proposed to do it given we are now living in the house and it's not that easy to just move out for a week or 2 with an 8 month old baby. He then said he could get a flooring inspector to write a report. If he's in the wrong he will pay but if not I have to pay. I had never heard of a flooring inspector, i said how do I know it's not your friend? He didn't even know the company name. Should I be concerned, is wrong colour putty a matter of personal opinion or are there standards that this inspector would have to check it off with? Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design. For timber flooring, for most parts it's fine because it's got base plates, and for door jabs you can… 7 11486 |
