Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 01, 2013 4:46 pm Hi all, I'm hoping that people with experience with carpets can comment.. I'd really appreciate any help with getting the right carpet and underlay. I'm looking at a SDN carpet with loop pile that's 1085gsm (30oz per square metre) with comfort master underlay (10mm).. Is this good for residential use? I've been quoted about 4.5k for about 4bedrooms and 1 study. Is this price alright? Or can I get something better or more value for money? Also, I was told that power stretcher is usually only use on commercial projects that involved long lengths of carpets as it can distort the backing and patterns on carpets- is that right? As I read here that its important to get a carpet layers that uses power stretcher- I'm asking because its conflicting ideas but this shop is willing to give 5yrs warranty on installation.. Thanks for all your help! Re: Carpet queries 2Feb 25, 2014 12:06 pm lol, the information you received regarding power stretching is laughable. powerstretching is required on any room larger than 2-3 metres. A long warranty is given to make you feel better, when in reality how many people are preppared to uplift their entire houses to go through having your carpet restretched later down the track. they are more likely to try and sell you on new carpet 5 years later. there are two things that matter more than anything else. 1 - get the best quality underlay, as it's your support 2 - get ur carpet powerstretched, cos that's your wear and tear and movement. notice your carpet is last. in regards to your carpet, the important part is making sure there is little gap between fibres, so bend ur carpet and see just how gappy it is, dont fall for carpet that is thick in height, you want density. fibres that stand next to eachother stand up and support each other over a long period of time. loop pile is fine, it's a preference.. id avoid it if i had cats, one yarn pulled and it's like a zipper. it's reported that it's also harder to clean as the fibre isn't 'open' like a twist or plush. hope that answers some questions. There is a whole lot more to know than just the answers you seek but they are a good start. Overflow outlets have a mosquito proof mesh. These… 3 8602 1 16267 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6814 |
