We are only carpeting bedrooms and I am wanting a nice charcoal, soft carpet for a modern home. Can you please give me a quick "Carpetting for Dummies" tut and give me a bit of information to be forearmed with before I hit the carpet shop? I appreciate any info you can give. Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 2Sep 19, 2013 6:15 am Hi Kirsten, You need to visit your local Harvey Norman Flooring franchise between Friday and Monday this week and ask to look at Smartstrand and Everstrand. Smartstrand is better though. There is a HUGE sale planned for 4 days on Smartstrand (the original and still no.1 Triexta carpet) & Everstrand (recycled plastic bottles). You can also buy using Interest Free Terms if you like. Best wishes for your new home. I've had some advice to go a loop in either 60:40 or 80:20 blend as a guide, would this be good advice? Thanks heaps! You will never find a loop wool carpet soft, in fact wool carpet itself is not soft. If your after a wool you need a short pile 80/20 twist or 100% wool. Twist will never date, they always look neat on the floor. They are not a fashions statement, which is good. A good wool will - if looked after, last quite a while. I had my last one for 21 years. If you are after soft, Redbook have their "GREEN" selection out, which is the softest carpet we are selling! We have sold a lot of this carpet! 17% corn syrup - and I'm guessing nylon for the rest...... Lets remember also, depending on the size of your rooms, 3/4 of most floors are covered with furniture in bedrooms. So you really don't need top of the range or be that overly fussy about your selection. Get the colour, price and fibre right and your away. Hope this helped.... I've had some advice to go a loop in either 60:40 or 80:20 blend as a guide, would this be good advice? Thanks heaps! Wool carpets don't come in 80/20 or 60/40 blends in loops - either pure wool or 50:50 blends. The 50/50's tend to be pretty harsh and have a tendency to pill (think short dreadlocks). You seriously need to see Mohawk's Smartstrand before you make a decision though. If you are after a soft carpet, take a look at the Silk range, silk uses a drastically lower diameter filament to create a sensationally soft yarn - hence it's name Silk. It comes in a variety of price points and with the 4 day promotion, you'll only pay $1 for standard installation (when you purchase carpet and underlay) no matter how big your house is Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 8Sep 19, 2013 8:18 pm HN Flooring Team Kirstenl Hi Michelle, no not yet! If so, it's Pluto, if you mean the underlay I have no idea haha! Thanks michelle, is there a better one to look at than quest or is that brand ok? Not sure if there is something better for same $$! Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 13Sep 20, 2013 4:53 pm Your obviously looking outside a Carpet Court store, as we all rename our carpets and those names are not familiar to me. Quest is a very good company I would not hesitate to sell their products. The $$$ is very important, with carpet - you get what you pay for. How much a lineal mt is the carpet you are looking at? On the back of all carpets you will see badges with information and warranties, make sure you read these. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 14Sep 20, 2013 5:23 pm The info for them is: 32 ounce $179 + $13 extra for gold underlay 60 ounce $225 + $13 extra for gold underlay These are rrp prices and we will be paying less through the builder but it might give you an idea of what carpet it is. It is a mottled charcoal grey colour. Is it worth the extra to get the thicker carpet or won't I notice it given the good quality underlay? I really appreciate your guidance here Michelle. Thanks. Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 15Sep 20, 2013 5:58 pm 60 ounce is by far a better carpet. If you are willing to spend the money for bedrooms, then go for it! 32 Ounce will do the job with the top underlay though. Underlay is very important, the underlay is what is keeping your carpet from sagging in the future. Where anyone can afford the extra, I recommend top underlay for all carpets. There is also a middle of the road 48 ounce in that "range" of twists from Quest, same colours most likely, as they buy the yarn in bulk drom overseas. Your builders preferred retailer should be able to source it for you. Good luck with your new home !! Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 17Sep 26, 2013 3:42 pm Thanks for all the input. I've still not made up my mind! Will I notice the thinness of the carpet if I don't get the thicker one? There is a $1000 price difference over 2 rooms. Is it worth it? Aaaargh! I just wonder once I put the 32 ounce one on gold underlay, will it be soft enough for me to stop thinking about the 60 ounce haha. I JUST DON'T KNOW. Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 18Feb 25, 2014 12:11 pm Michelle, you have given some good advice, a nice change to see some real information rather than "our product is the best" Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 19Feb 25, 2014 12:22 pm to help answer your question Kirstenl a 30oz carpet on the ultimate gold foam will be good, what your carpet lacks in thickness your underlay makes up for. a 60oz carpet, is alot of carpet, it can almost be too much 'sponginess' underfoot to have a thick carpet and a thick underlay, i'd lower the underlay just one level if this is the way you want to go. i personally would aim for in the middle, around 45oz's and get the best underlay. underlay is your support, so make sure that is the best is possibly can be. also factor in how many years do you really want your cpt on the floor, how likely are you to want a change of scene in 5plus years, that can make a difference as to how much you spend now, so that you can update it in the near future. Re: Michelle - Carpet help please!!! 20Mar 27, 2015 9:10 pm We choose a wool carpet for a bedroom, to match existing carpet in other rooms. However, the new carpet feels very rough, like it's made from straw. The existing carpet has always been softer. All carpets came from HN and are a loop pile. Will have to go back and check the showroom sample, as I'm not convinced we got wool (maybe polypropylene)? There's no markings or stampings that I can find on the offcuts to identify the product. 1 11004 1 15753 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6581 |
