Lol I am going to have laminate throughout the entire house. No carpet. I've got charcoal and white checkerboard floors in wet areas... Drawbacks.....I have a lot of grey furniture and plan on getting a grey couch in the near future (Grey to disguise cat hair lol). I do also plan on having rugs here and there but is it enough to break up so much grey? Here is an example of some of my grey furniture Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The brown - love the colours, love the look which reminds me of the floors in the drawing department of the VCA, adds warm and contrast....however....is it too busy and would it clash too much with the tiles? Does it look too country with the tiles? My gut tells me...go with the grey, you can't go wrong with it, but you'll need rugs and colour to balance out so much grey to create a warm feeling. Then I think, the brown is so lively and funky and warm..... Argh I don't know what to do. The rep at CarpetCall thinks I should go with the grey. HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 2Aug 09, 2013 5:48 pm Littlewing I agree I like the grey against your tiles......however I have to say I love the brown floors more and the reality is you'll only have the wood against tiles in a couple of places and after a while you wont even notice <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 3Aug 09, 2013 6:14 pm I like the more orange one. I think it makes both floors a feature in their own right rather then kind of blending into one. But your the one who has to live with it!! I actually think the grey tile goes much better with the brown (just scroll down so you can only see the bottom laminate against the tiles). It picks up the lovely grey variations in the wood look laminate. And if you go grey I think everything will just look washed out. I think it would make it easier to compare and decide... Yes I think you're right about each floor being a feature. It's hard to tell in the pics but there is a bit of warmth shot through the grey flooring, which is what makes it a tough choice for me. If it was a totally cold grey it'd be a different story now why didn't I think to take pics of them separately?? D'oh! As much as I love grey as a colour...it's just so much of it o.o plus I'd like to use gray as a paint colour in places so I think it might jus wind up feeling like you're inside of a battleship lol! Thank you so much for your opinions ladies ! I'll be calling up CarpetCall to see if they can get the walnut in stock for me HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 9Aug 12, 2013 2:33 am Hi little wing, Whilst the Parador product is a quality product, we would point out that those sample boards pictured are very old in style (as in you wouldn't see them at all at a trade show they are so out of date). The tiny parquet lengths are almost obsolete in the world of flooring now and it will look super busy on mass. The worldwide trend is towards realism in laminate floors and that entails longer, wider boards. Take a look at the Classica XXL range for example in your local HN Store, it's 2.26 long by 22.6cm wide but it is just one plank......one big oak plank (if you like grey have a look at Florence). On mass it looks like a beautiful aged oak floor, not a busy parquet style. Don't mean to be rude and if that's the look you are after, then so be it, but someone needs to point out that those samples are not very commercial and certainly not current trend or even future forecasts. Hope you get a chance to look at the Classica so you can see what we mean before you have locked yourself in. Here is a link to a post on the forerunner to Classica, called Vintage......the Classica is new and improved and longer and wider.....but it gives you an idea as to the look. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=57653&p=890398&hilit=Vintage+Laminate+Flooring#p890398 Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 10Aug 12, 2013 9:18 am Thanks for your response HN Now I'm confused. I don't want to be trendy because trends always change, I just want to have something I like. I already have had a look at the flooring in HN (Initially the Allure plus as I was going for vinyl) and did not find a colour I liked, plus many of them were shiney. I know the thin planks run the risk of being busy but I don't mind as most of my house will be white inside and I am also planning on using rugs here and there. HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 13Aug 15, 2013 10:10 am Well now I'm just going nuts here.... I initially was going to get vinyl. The family thinks it looks cheap and will "downgrade the house", but I don't agree. Plus i have pets and i feel safer going with vinyl. Anyway I'm so tired of fighting with the family so thought fine I'll look in to laminate... So I found Parador, in the pics above, but I can't find really ny reliable reviews on the product. Some people say do not put laminate in kitchens, some people say it's fine. Went in to Choices yesterday to have a look at Quickstep which I know has a great reputation.....the trouble is....I didn't like a single one of the colours. That was really disappointing. In the end I still don't feel comfortable or safe with the laminate, but the vinyl is so much pricier and I'm caught trying to appease the family and doing what's right by me and it's driving me crazy HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 14Aug 15, 2013 10:34 am hm, in a way, all you can do it make the choice of your preference within your budget. I agree with HN flooring in that larger boards look much better over a larger area. we basically doubled our timber flooring costs to go with one strip over 3 strip boards. Did you go and look at the Bolero? I think for the price, it looks very nice and has heaps of colours. Looking at it you would find it difficult to tell it isn't timber. Hi Meowsy Yeah ever since HN mentioned it I'm thinking the 3 strip might be much, as much as I like the look of it. I'm having trouble finding a 2 or 1 strip with the same type of colour variance. I did not get to UTF as I had limited time when down at hoppers crossing but I'm going to go tomorrow. I've seen some of the bolero samples and wasn't too keen on any of them either except for dusty rock, so now that I'm moving away from grey flooring I'm not sure they're going to have a colour I like unless they've got some new ones. This is the toughest decision I've had to make for this house ....worse than the roof! Lol Meowsy which floor did you get? HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 16Aug 16, 2013 10:26 am Well I'm off to carpet court to have a nice look around, again, and UTF. Cc has Aquastep which looks promising....with pets, I'd like to be able to wet mop the floor to clean it better. Wish me luck that I find something I like lol HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 17Aug 16, 2013 1:00 pm I have had laminate flooring in two homes and have always wet mopped. I just make sure the water is hot so it dries quickly, I also make sure the mop isn't soaking. I have never had a problem. HD Re: Need some help...can't decide!! 19Aug 16, 2013 3:50 pm Well I went down to Carpet Court and had a look at the Kenbrock vinyl. I'm going to have a CC guy come to my house next week to see if I'll need a levelling compound. If I don't, I can get all vinyl in a colour I love for around 15,000 installed, which is similar to the laminate.
