Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 25, 2013 9:01 pm Hi, We've had a new timber floor laid, but am a little disappointed with the end product. We laid Roasted Peat (kiln-treated blackbutt) and loved the look of it when we saw a sample in Tait's (Melbourne) - it had a very chocolately/brown colour to it. We elected to use a solvent-based poly for the durability aspect and I assumed the coating would give us a similar finish to what we saw in the hardware store (also upon discussing with the floor guys - this seemed to be achievable). However, after application the floor really does have a reddish hue to it, which isn't really the effect we wanted. Does a solvent-based poly alter the colour of the timber? Thanks Re: Timber coating colour 2Aug 01, 2013 6:53 pm It makes it a bit more golden in colour, but did not turn your timber from chocolate to reddish. That would be the timber itself. Timber varies from board to board, so what you saw at the display was only an indication of what you will get. Where did you buy it from? Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 11502 Depends...
