Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 03, 2013 8:08 am Hey everyone. We're about to start building and our contract is due next week. One cost saving measure we have decided to go with is having our own Readyflor installed by our local choices instead of Fairhaven Homes. This will save us about $5,000. One concern I have is regarding the installation of this after handover. Fairhaven have said we can't do it before, meaning they will fix skirts before we lay the floor. They tell me this isnt an issue and it was done in their display. We've taken a look and it does seem that this was the case. You can see about 30mm of arc, then the bevelled timber strip, then the flooring. Can anyone tell me if this will be in issue in the future with floor movement? I guess it means we just have lower arcs around the house which doesnt bother me. I dont really want to go down the path of having arcs left off and having to pain arcs for timbered areas of the home... Any advice about what others have done would be great!! Arc question on laying after settlemen 2Jul 03, 2013 9:06 pm If I understand what you mean, is that you seem concerned about the timber fit around the door jams. They are undercut and the timber slid under them. Floor movement will have no affect on it. Re: Readyflor Advice! Arc question on laying after settlemen 3Jul 03, 2013 9:18 pm Yep that's one thing. I really don't want to have to either leave arcs off to paint then install post flooring or have to pull them off to do the floor so it's ok to run them to the arcs which are installed already then just bead it? I'm probably just being paranoid. Re: Readyflor Advice! Arc question on laying after settlemen 4Jul 04, 2013 4:19 pm The door jams are left in place, as finished. The layer cuts the bottom out of the jam to the thickness of the flooring. The planks are cut and fitted under the jam approx 10 - 20 mm. No beading/moulding is required for doorways. Only onto the skirting if they are not removed for laying of the planks. Re: Readyflor Advice! Arc question on laying after settlemen 5Jul 04, 2013 4:28 pm Awesome mark that's a great explanation mate thanks so much good to know we won't have issues Re: Readyflor Advice! Arc question on laying after settlemen 6Dec 12, 2013 8:00 am Guys sorry to bring back an old thread, but our place is almost finished. I'm wanting to know do I HAVE to pull of the arcs to lay the floor, or can I just run the new floor up to the fitted arcs in each room and bead it down? Saves me so much stuffing around if I dont have to take off arcs and touch up paint... Re: Readyflor Advice! Arc question on laying after settlemen 7Dec 12, 2013 6:39 pm Hi, we laid our own readyflor after hand over. We bought their scotia in white as our archs are white. Just put the scotia over the readyflor and nailed to archs with fine nails. Sorry, I know that there is probably a correct name for them. Can you tell my DH is the handyman? It makes the floor look finished at floor level rather than going up the archs. Re: Readyflor Advice! Arc question on laying after settlemen 8Dec 12, 2013 7:12 pm Hey Back Pocket. Thanks! Thats exactly what I mean. Leave the arc on, lay the floor, nail off the quad to the arc or wall as normal so it doesn't actually run up under the arc. Have you had any issues at all? Would you mind taking a photo to show me? Just interested to know if you've had problems really don't want to take the arcs off unless I have to... we're having choices install the floor for us and they have said their installer can remove our arcs and replace them but obviously then I have to repaint them... pain. I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1935 Hey There. No problems re jumping in. My original question was "should I have waterproofed" the concrete slab before putting batons down. We have been told we should… 7 4328 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time.
