Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 17, 2013 9:13 pm Hi guys, Quick question - we are building a 29 square home and the building company has an allowance for 9k in flooring with the choice of ceramic or bolero look timber flooring and carpet to the entire home. Is 9k roughly on budget? Seems really high to me - but then again - I have never had to think about floorings before! Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance Courtney Re: New home flooring - 9k?? 2Jun 17, 2013 11:20 pm That's roughly 270m2 and minus wet areas maybe 240-250m2 so $36ish/m2 which to me is cheap? I'm in WA so will be a bit different but decent carpet and underlay is approx $45-$70/m2 Floorboards anything between $90-$200/m2 600 x 600 tiles (I know you aren't having tiles but as comparison) $80-$130ish/m2 So I'd be happy with $9000 for the whole home but do check the quality, especially the underlay for the carpet. Re: New home flooring - 9k?? 3Jun 17, 2013 11:39 pm I'm building a 300sq m home. We had $9500 just for our tiles (nothing special) in main areas and then I think $3500 for carpet in bedrooms, study, home theatre. Re: New home flooring - 9k?? 4Jun 18, 2013 7:44 am $9K sounds quite conservative to me, and as xxkatxx has already suggested, I'd be looking at the quality. I have a 43 sq house, and spent nearly $23K on flooring (carpet and floorboards)...and that didn't include 2 bathrooms, a powder room and the laundry. I'm guessing the $9K is the base price for the cat 1 product, and if you choose a different flooring you pay any extra above the $9K?? Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Our carpet was half the bill and less than half the floor space as we selected one of the most expensive 2 Re: New home flooring - 9k?? 6Jun 18, 2013 10:34 am My builder is charging the same. I find it pricey though so will be getting it done after hand over My 29sq house has 55m2 of floorboards and 105 of carpet. Builder quoting just over 5k for timber laminate, but I've been quoted for bolero $25 supply and $26 inc acoustic underlay to install. So, total to get after handover is just over 2800. Carpet I can get about 1k cheaper and it will be better quality carpet and underlay I'm in melb btw Building the Porter Davis Dunedin 29 maybe, thinking of forfeiting deposit and going with CH or UE Re: New home flooring - 9k?? 7Jun 30, 2013 1:31 pm Check if they use a specific supplier/shop, and if so, go in and say which builder you're looking at using and what's the range they allow/use. We found they only included a small range of colours for one brand of carpet, best to ask beforehand than to go in afterwards and be disappointed.
