Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 08, 2013 11:58 pm Hi! So, rather than pay the builder 9.5k for 56m2 of titan select timber laminate, we will do flooring after handover. I keep tossing up between bamboo and laminate. I have 3 young boys, so hard wearing is a must. As is easy to keep clean. So, those two things being my main prerequisite, I'm thinking a matt laminate. I like the look of Bolero and Parador, but they are 8mm. Is 8mm hard wearing enough? And is matt easer to keep clean than gloss? So who can recommend me some brands? We're in Melbourne and want supply and install Oh, then I need about 105m2 of long lasting carpet with upgraded underlay installed also Cheers Building the Porter Davis Dunedin 29 maybe, thinking of forfeiting deposit and going with CH or UE Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 2Jun 09, 2013 8:15 am $9.5k will get you 56sqm of the highest quality natural solid 18mm hardwood installed, sanded or polished. Or engineered hardwood. I prefer the solid personally as it looks more natural with with varying lengths. Why go with laminate that look and feel so unnatural. Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 3Jun 09, 2013 8:58 am The 9.5k is for cat 1 laminate and cat 1 carpet with cat 3 underlay Hardwood is amazing, I'm just concerned my boys would trash it Building the Porter Davis Dunedin 29 maybe, thinking of forfeiting deposit and going with CH or UE Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 5Jun 09, 2013 10:35 am That sounds expensive. We got 19mm highest grade solid hardwood for less than that. Installed, sanded and oiled. And in a few years when the kids are older it can be re-sanded and will come up like new. Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 6Jun 09, 2013 10:44 am Yeah, cat 1 is standard, basic range. Going hardwood would be lovely, but I'd be up for about 9k, plus another 3 or so for carpet. I want all flooring for 6 if possible Building the Porter Davis Dunedin 29 maybe, thinking of forfeiting deposit and going with CH or UE Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 7Jun 11, 2013 9:03 am Personally I would never get gloss flooring, especially with kids. Matt looks 'cleaner' for longer (any hair/dust shows up right away on gloss). Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 8Jun 11, 2013 3:57 pm Thanks Tina, I agree, think matt will be our choice. Got a good quote on the bolero today, so happy to go with that Building the Porter Davis Dunedin 29 maybe, thinking of forfeiting deposit and going with CH or UE Re: 8 or 12 mm, gloss or flat 10Dec 31, 2013 3:16 pm What did you end up going with your flooring? I would not be wasting my money on laminate so sorry if you've already paid it. I agree with JB1..go for the real timber. I've heard alot of negative reports about Bolero, bad quality and very very poor customer service. One of the flooring places I went to said they stopped stocking that product because the kept blaming the defects on the customer and didn't accept any liability. Fingers crossed if you used it that yours is wearing ok. Real hardwood flooring is around the $150/sqm, Engineered flooring around the $120/sqm, Bamboo around $100/sqm and laminate as low as $45/sqm or $75/sqm better quality. Those prices are melb prices too I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings.
