Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 23, 2006 3:44 pm Hi, everyone. This is my first post.
Am nearing the end of building a new house through Henley. Accordingly, I have to decide what flooring to use. I have come across the high gloss timber laminate, which I really like and is about a quarter of the cost of real timber. I suppose I would love to hear of any persons experiences with high gloss timber laminate, its durability, is it easily scratched, does it fade, etc? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks. Re: HIgh Gloss Timber Laminate 2Sep 23, 2006 8:17 pm Without an exact description of the flooring its hard to give an opinion, however, if price is any guide, it will probably scratch fairly easily and won't be able to re-sanded and coated.
You get what you pay for in flooring. flooring 4Sep 24, 2006 9:28 am The type of timber laminate would be similar to this:

We can do real timber flooring as cheap as $32 sq. metre Re: HIgh Gloss Timber Laminate 6Sep 27, 2006 12:16 pm Look, given you're working to a budget, you probably are best to stick to a click lock laminate. I would however suggest that scratches will be more visible on a high gloss, consider a low gloss.
If you are using a click lock, you could always get a few extra boards and if there is a sserious scratch, unclick the bits that are scratched and replace. There is a couple of issues with this, it is a lot of work, but then so is sanding. The real issue is that laid boards may have worn a bit and new boards will stand out. You can partly get around this by taking normally hidden boards (eg. under a sofa) and swapping with the new boards and then use these to fix. Dukekamaya, does this include laying? Also how hard is this timber? Not a stab at ya, just genuinely intrested. 3timesbuilda Re: HIgh Gloss Timber Laminate 7Sep 27, 2006 7:20 pm No mate, just timber supply. Usually do cypress for about $32 square metre. We have 5inch (108mm cover) blackbutt at the moment for $36 sq. metre. Re: HIgh Gloss Timber Laminate 8Oct 01, 2006 8:57 pm thanks for the replies everyone, it is a great help - i can get the high gloss laminate installed for $40 per sq metre. Unfortunately, the best price I can get here in melbourne for timber floating floor is $75 per sq metre. If I want full timber, I need have to add at least $30,oo on top of that. Laminated flooring are good but not as good as engineering wood flooring. 2. If your cutting cost and wish go for temp wood flooring - Laminated wood flooring is your choice. ( again remember that with tempreture changes in the long run, it might wear and tear.) 3. If you want long lasting, cushioning feel and better quality, go for engineering wood flooring. It just doesn't feel that hollow as you walk on it. Durable... its just the higher range of wood flooring. Laminate wood flooring = lower range Engr wood flooring = Better range. Timber floor = higher range Cheers. Interior architect Re: HIgh Gloss Timber Laminate 10Nov 03, 2006 12:33 pm dadesign Hello there.
