Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 24, 2008 12:54 am I've been figuring out the flooring for our house. We're having carpet upstairs and on the stairs, and carpet in my Mum's area (living room and bedroom) plus the formal lounge and dining downstairs. The rest of the flooring (besides bathrooms and laundry) will be wood, hopefully Blackbutt from the Boral Silkwood range.
Then comes the kitchen. From what I've read, it may not be a great idea to use wood in the kitchen. Don't really want to use tiles because it's really hard on your legs and back. Do you think it would look odd to have good quality vinyl in the kitchen only? I'd probably go for a tile-look one in similar tones to the tiles in the bathrooms & laundry areas. (I think the kitchen cupboards will be in graphite tones if that helps.) Thanks for any suggestions. Judie Re: Vinyl with timber? 2Apr 24, 2008 1:37 am Maybe! Its what appeals to you, and goes with everything else that matters. Other floor-coverings worth considering might be cork and marmoleum.
What will the kitchen floor lead onto? Be careful to create a smooth transition from one floor-covering to another. Ash. Nice dark coour that almost has a dark stone look to it and is nice underfoot and very easy to clean. It even curves up at the edges and becomes the cabinet kickboards.
For my house design I'm having timber floorboards for the main living area and will either contiue the timber into the open plan kitchen or go for the same look as at work.
