Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 17, 2013 11:22 am G'day everyone, I am giving a go at laying some floating floorboard in my home. The type of floor I am using is a 14mm bamboo boards. I have up all the moisture & foam underlay in place using a 2mm combo plastic/foam sheet. I have installed all my boards in the room (leaving a gap around the edges) and I must say it looks pretty good so far. These boards make up part of a large lounge room where one part of it is carpet. The entrance and exit to the room is tiled and I have put in place a ramp transition with magic plugs into the concrete. This all is looking good. The question I have is the transition from the wood to the carpet. What do people usually use in this situation? I have seen a few youtube videos indicating that I can just tuck the carpet in on the edge on the boards. I was a bit confused on this as I was hen wondering should I actually secure he boards that will butt up against the carpet. If I am not to simply just tuck the carpet into the floorboard, should I be using some sort of transition strip? After installing the boards it left the wooden floor around 4mm higher the. The carpet and the tiles. If anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be most appreciated. Yes I have seen the installation of the smooth-board to hold the carpet down. My confusion is do I need anything on the wood side to either secure it or does it require a strip of some sort? In a room you would normally have 4 walls, in this instance, I have an open side which needs to transition to carpet. The design is a bit like 1/3 of the lounge room is wood and the other 2/3's of the lounge room is carpet. I guess if the last board will happily lay there transitioning to the carpet all will be fine. The supplier of the floor suggested a 'C' channel but that looks rather ugly (unless that is the only option). I have watched a few YouTube videos on this floor installation and I have yet to come across one that really fits this problem. I am 'guessing' the DIY videos that I have seen relate to floor boards that may have been glued down. I am not to sure. I saw this floor to carpet transition and this is the look I was after http://tinyurl.com/coqfgwa Cheers & thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice... Homith Re: Floating Floor To Carpet Transition Help 2Mar 20, 2013 8:12 am If you can start at that side and lay a full board parallel to the join, it might be fine as is. But if you cant butt it up that close - or if you do but would then stub your toe because the boards are higher - just cover the join with an appropriate strip. I've seen joins without strips only when the finished level is close enough; in such cases, the carpet was also rolled in on itself to hide it's own cut edge. HD Land settled May '14.
