Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 10, 2013 9:39 am Hi, I was thinking to use these tiles in the bathrooms and toilets all tiled to the ceiling Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It's a 600x300 gloss/Matt tile so I can use the same tile for floors and walls. Vanities will be white 2pac gloss with Osprey stone. I think it will be ok (not too dark) but worried it will make the bathrooms/toilet look a little small. Any thoughts? Re: These tiles too dark for small bathroom? 2Feb 10, 2013 10:01 am Would be nice I think. Do you get much natural light - skylight etc ? Mind you - I'm not allowed to choose such things for our house ... I don't think they're very dark, but I'd be concerned about them not aging well. If you're tiling to the ceiling, too, that's a lot of tile you might be unhappy about down the line. Another thing to consider is that with the stripey pattern repeating all over the room, it might start to look rather busy. Personally I'd use it on the floors and maybe a feature wall or niche in the shower, and the rest I'd go with a classic white subway tile, or a beige colour extracted from the tile from your photo. Another thing to think about....having that pattern and colour, what will you do with the ceiling? Leave it white? How do you feel about how that might look? In the end of course it's up to you !! With strong lights I think the colour is fine but like I said I'd be more worried about that pattern being too busy. Fortunately the shop has installed the same tile (in a different colour) on a wall with a vanity in front of it, so you can see what it should be like. When standing from distance the pattern isn't very noticeable and tends to blend together, but I can see looking at the photo how busy it looks. It looks like a semi textured wall and isn't so 'in your face' in person. But yes, I know it will date, but we won't be living it in beyond 5 years, so the next owner can go 'I wonder why the previous owner thought these tiles are a good idea?' lol.. This house I'm building is like a test run for our permanent family house I plan to build in a few years time. I was going to use a 600x300mm polished off white porcelain tile (like my current house), but because the bathroom will have a walk in shower and I wanted to use the same tile for floor and walls it was too dangerous to use a fully polished porcelain tile I think the contrast between darker tiles and pure white Sydney Cove 90mm cornice & ceiling will look quite good. It was more the darkness of the tiles in a small room that I was concerned about. Re: These tiles too dark for small bathroom? 13Feb 12, 2013 2:25 pm JB1 Hi LittleWing, Thanks for the suggestion. I can see what you mean about it having a lovely textural effect. Are you tiling to the ceiling just the side where the shower and vanity are? (If they are on the same side), or the entire bathroom? Something to keep in mind... You have to try to imagine that tile all around you surrounding you in a small space. In addition, you won't really have the benefit of viewing the tile at a distance when you're surrounded by it in said small space. That being said I agree with you on future owners wondering what you were thinking we can't fret too much over what someone else might think but I believe it can affect your resale opportunities. That being said I'm no real estate agent in addition, you gotta go with what you love I'm more than likely going to get black and white checkered tiles, not something many would like but heck I sure do! Good idea avoiding the porcelain tiles! Nobody wants to do the splits in the shower lol! HD Re: These tiles too dark for small bathroom? 14Feb 12, 2013 2:38 pm JB1 Saint Mike Would be nice I think. Well - I don't generally pick the colours for our house ... I might do other things - but not the colours. I have a basic taste in colours. Re: These tiles too dark for small bathroom? 15Feb 12, 2013 3:55 pm Mike- be a man! lol But generally females are better at colours than us men. LittleWing, I'm tiling all walls up the ceiling. I too was worried, it may be a little too much, but it will be broken up by the white gloss vanity, white stone bench and toilet. Oh and a big mirror. I like having the tiles all around, it seems to open up the room for some reason, it could be the light reflecting off the tiles. I think B&W checkered tiles can look fantastic in the right period home, something that has been around for 100 years is simply going of style anytime soon. If you like it, go for it, at the end of the day you're the one who has to live with it for, 3,5, 10 or more years. And if you choose another tile because of resale, then you will be disappointed you didn't install the B&W checkered tiles every single day. Heehee oh gosh....whenever I ask my poor boyfriend his opinion on colors and decor his eyes glaze over That's an excellent point about the reflective quality of the tiles. It sounds like you really love these tiles, go for it! Like you said about the b&w checkered tiles...it's absolutely true! I would 100% regret it. In part because I feel box homes can struggle to feel like anything but a box home. Add your personality, spice things up and really make it your own and share pictures, too! Hehe ! Also considering your white vanity/toilet etc i think the white ceiling will not feel so out of place HD Re: These tiles too dark for small bathroom? 18May 18, 2013 6:22 pm JB1 Mike- be a man! lol But generally females are better at colours than us men. The woman in tile shop said that women have more cones and rods or some such thing, thus able to recognise more colours and the subtly of colours than men.
