Dark Chocolate

Well our original selection colour will not be available for months.

We have had to reselect. Within the price we were working with, the brand seems to offer the best value for money. Unfortunately the colour options are somewhat limited.

We have (after much umming and aaahhing) decieded to go with the Brown. This is a bit of a shock for me because I never thought I would go with a brown carpet.

The brown colour is actually quite dark (I held a piece of dark chocolate next to the sample and it is about the same colour) and looks quite elegant.

The obvious problem with this colour is keeping it clean. Any other problems that anyone can see with dark brown?

I cannot find an exact match of our carpet on the internet. I did however find this which is by the same manufacturer and appears to have a similar pattern and is also SDN. The colour however looks much lighter than in real life and the spots are less pronounced.

Comments? Royalblue what of the quality - are beaulieu any good?

If its quite dark, the main issue will be it'll show all the light fluff, lint etc. Also in bedrooms, you'll see light powdery dust that accumulates on the dark carpet. That isn't a great problem though. All it means is the carpet will tell you when it needs a vacuum. Simple... vacuum it!

Otherwise, the only possible issue could be crocking. This is dye transfer from the carpet to other surfaces. Its not that probable, and only with some very dark carpets, they overdye it (apply an additional dye after tufting to blend in any shade variation). If this occurred, it would have to be replaced under warranty. Shouldn't be an issue though.

So even though it is solution dyed nylon, they may still add more dye?

does your carpet have a pattern like the link?

if so it will help disguise the marks.

Yes, in some cases (and mostly with very dark colours).

Picture it like this.....

Get a white piece of paper and an HB pencil. Colour it with the pencil until the paper is one uniform grey colour. Its the same shade of pencil, but you'll have varying shades as a result.

Some carpets will have similar issues. A lot of care is taken to match the batches of yarn, but sometimes, there may still be some slight variation, and so they run the tufted carpet through some form of additional dying process to blend it in and get a uniform finish.

Oh and Beaulieu should be fine. I don't take much notice of names and brands, moreso, the specs of a given carpet.

From the photo, that looks very dark. I'd avoid a carpet that shade. Surely there's one a bit lighter that you like?
