Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 23, 2013 10:14 pm Hi, I'm hoping there might be a tiler or two out there who can offer advice, as my handyman partner decided to tile our 14m2 verandah/patio area, and while he has basically done a good job, he has run into problems with finishing it off. He laid the tiles using the house wall as the starting point, but the raised concrete verandah is not square, and so we are left with a tapering gap at the edge of the concrete, at one end of the verandah is it less than 1mm, and at the other it is around 20mm. We cant use cut tiles as this will just accentuate the sloping edge, is their any aluminium strip that we could use to cover the whole edge along the length of the verandah, and if so would it look strange? Any suggestions of solutions would be most appreciated. Re: Patio tiling issue - any advice? 3Feb 25, 2013 11:27 am Sorry, Im not quite sure if you mean the height or width of the concrete. The width is broken up by rendered pillars at each end and in the centre, so maximum of 2.7 metres between pillars and 1.2 metres along the ends. Height varies, as on each end it is flush with the driveway and a path, except for the height of the tile. But the problem side drops off to the garden about 10cm. Hope that answers your question. Re: Patio tiling issue - any advice? 4Mar 02, 2013 11:34 am He should have started laying the tiles at the verandah edge not up against the wall of the house. A quick check with a tape at each end of your verandah would have alerted him to any variation in width. Apart from cutting tiles, a strip of some sort like you say would be the only solution. How was he going to finish the last tiles anyway ? With one row of vertical tiles ? I think that is what Leighton is thinking. Stewie Re: Patio tiling issue - any advice? 5Mar 04, 2013 12:31 am Im certain that you are correct that he should have started at the edge, not the house wall, and he can certainly put a row of vertical tiles (we have heaps left over) along the front, but Im not sure what I can purchase to cover the sloping gap that I have been left with, or would I have to get something made up? If I knew how to put photos on here I would show the problem... but i think a L shaped timber strip would work okay.
