Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 21, 2013 1:37 pm We are building with Carter Grange (about to sign contracts if everything looks good), they have shown us their flooring options which included Engineered Timber Flooring, Bamboo, Tiles and Carpet. We have decided that Tiles is the only option for the Laundry and Bathrooms, Carpet will go into the Bedrooms and Formal Lounge; however we are a little stuck / confused on the pros and cons of Bamboo vs Engineered Timber. I would like to hear people's opinions / experiences on Bamboo vs Engineered Timber, we will be placing it thru our Entrance, Kitchen (and Butler's Pantry - which has garage entry, so high traffic area), Dining and Family Rooms. We are also weighing up the pros and cons of Carpet vs Timber (either the Bamboo or Engineered) in the upstairs Rumpus area. As much as we would love real solid timber floors, I would prefer them in before the skirting and I don't know how CG would go about not scratching them when finishing off the house (tradies putting in appliances, painters, etc), there is also the extra cost factor. We have been advised that the Engineered floors will look like real timber floors and will be able to be sanded 2 or 3 times over their lifetime. We have a lot of traffic thru our house as we have 3 children, 2 who will be in High School when the house is completed. We imagine that the kids will hang out in the Rumpus Room upstairs for a little privacy from adults. We have no plans on getting pets, so dogs scratching the flooring isn't an issue. If it helps this is the plan of the house, we are building the double storey to the right of the screen. Tiles in the laundry, bathrooms, balcony, carpet everywhere else. We were quite undecided, basically we wanted hardwood, but didn't think it would be worth the cost. The engineered timber looked a little flimsy compared to real wood (proper planks), and the bamboo seemed a good hard-wearing compromise, though not too happy about the spots Carter Grange Radisson Carter Grange Custom Radisson 43 with rear balcony (see CG Build for details). Re: Help with Flooring Choices 4Mar 03, 2013 5:51 am ^James, are your bamboo boards click or tongue and groove? Are they going in after the house has been finished? I got quotes for doing it afterwards and it seemed it would save me no money, well not much, and complicate my carpentry Carter Grange Radisson Carter Grange Custom Radisson 43 with rear balcony (see CG Build for details). Re: Help with Flooring Choices 6Mar 04, 2013 5:23 pm Bamboo is cheaper than engineered hardwood floors and is arguably a better product. Personally, if I was going the hardwood option, I'd go the real McCoy. Bamboo is a solid board, extremely hard wearing, a great product. You get less personality in the timber with bamboo, but you can get some great dark / red bamboo boards that really don't have a hardwood equal. Hi there, I'm a conplete newbie to this, but I'm looking to put a floor down in my 6x9m shed. It's currently sitting on a 100mm thick concrete perimeter (dirt floor… 0 6468 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6211 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15924 |
