Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 07, 2013 9:57 pm We have been looking in carpet stores today and came across one who is very anti bamboo... He stated that as it is not a controlled product and imported from China they have no idea on whether each batch will be good or bad or whether it is 3 months old or 3 years old! He also said that there has been an issue with blackspot due to the moisture content in the bamboo drying out in our heat here..It cant escape due to the sealer used and hence this causes the spotting... He also said that it has been known to shrink by up to 3cm!! Can anyone out there who actually has bamboo leave their feedback as to how its holding up and how long it has been down... We are having vinyl planking downstairs but would like to have bamboo in the bedrooms, now this dude has put a spanner in the works.... They can't recommend them highly enough. They got their's from bamboozle though who I believe would supply better quality products than some of these carpet places. Then again we spoke to a guy at a carpet store who said the other reps would try and talk us out of wool carpets. So really you could have had a different person in the store say something similar about any other product they don't like / want to sell you Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 3Jan 08, 2013 8:48 pm Thanks Smithieswife... My daughter had them too from Bamboozle and had no problems... We went in another store today and was told the same thing about it being problematic... It could be like you say that if they dont actually sell bamboo themselves, then they will try and steer you to another product that they do actually sell!!... I was hoping to have received more comments, so perhaps I should address these issues with the manufacturer directly and get their response... I feel yet another email coming on lol Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 4Jan 08, 2013 8:57 pm It's the old story.. buy from a reputable seller and you won't have an issue. What this man is saying could be true, but these stories originate from people buying on eBay or basically being tight and cutting corners. Reputable sellers / installers can't afford to put down a bad product. The simple fact is that bamboo is a great product, which is very cheap as it originates from China. Yes.. It's already cheap so there's no reason to source the cheapest crap you can find online. Of course it's going to be rubbish. Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 5Jan 08, 2013 9:04 pm lol I would never buy something like that online... The store we went to was a reputable one (franchise) and even though one of them sold it (reputable brand) he said to keep away from it because they had problems and the warranty doesnt cover anything like that!...Worthless in other words lol Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 6Jan 08, 2013 9:08 pm I couldn't help but laugh at the "3cm shrinkage" - I mean, over how big an area? A meter? Solid wood floors contract and expand constantly, so it's not like it's unheard of. Anyway, if that's the quality the carpet man can deliver, I'm with the others here, and I'd go to an (actual) reputable seller. Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 7Jan 08, 2013 9:21 pm Hi, I have bamboo floors and i love them. They have been down for over 3 years now with no problems at all. The shrinkage/expansion bit is true. Just like any other wood floor it reacts to temperature & humidity. You need a 1cm gap around all walls (to be hidden under skirting boards) and if you have an expanse if 5m or more in any one direction you should look at putting in an expansion gap. Have you seen the really dark one? It looks great. I think Gogo has it in her house. I prefer a uniform product. Did you watch masterchef? The floor in that is beautiful, but not for me - too patchy. It's probably just that particular idiot, though. I'm dead serious, if he's representative of the company, they should try to become a bit more versed in the world of natural flooring. I think the two of us have different takes on what "reputable" means Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 11Jan 08, 2013 10:29 pm "I think the two of us have different takes on what "reputable" means" Got you Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 12Feb 22, 2013 10:05 am I went and looked at some bamboo flooring earlier this week, the store I went to was part of a chain, the lady seemed quite knowledgeable about bamboo floors and she told me that when they now lay their bamboo floors they no longer direct stick, because for some reason in the Australian environment the floors have been lifting/warping, so instead they lay floating and according to her either the installation and or bamboo (sorry can't remember which) is now no longer guaranteed if it is direct stuck to the floor. I didn't know what to make of this because I quite liked the look I've only ever had a direct stick wood floor so I don't know how floating would go over a concrete floor?!? Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 13Feb 22, 2013 1:27 pm Hi Scotty Dog..Well we decided to go with the bamboo in our master suite and it will be floating..decided not to worry too much about the scaremongering and go by the general concensus... Our were glued in tongue/groove. So glad we chose this method now, after reading about the direct stick no guarantee. Re: BAMBOO floor issues..Scaremongering...True or False? 15Feb 23, 2013 6:31 pm We went back to the shop today and we're going to go ahead with the Bamboo floor and floating according to the guy we do just need the moisture barrier.
