Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 05, 2013 8:10 am I've just had a new parquet floor (about 50 m2) laid in place of an old one which was water damaged. The insurance company appointed a builder who chose the floorers. The old floor was coated with solvent based poly. I paid $620 extra to have the new one finished with Bona Prime Intense primer and Mega gloss coating instead of tung oil which the builder proposed using. The floorer mistakenly used Mega matte for the first coat then Mega gloss for the 2nd & 3rd coats. The floor was sanded between each coat and they were applied at approx 24 hour intervals. (I didn't actually see any Bona containers as they worked from buckets but have no reason to think it wasn't Bona - the tradesmen all seemed competent and conscientious). Both the old and new floors were done in a basic square on square pattern. The subfloor is a concrete slab. Even though there were no problems with the old floor, the floorers persuaded me to pay for extra grinding and Ardex which they said would give a better result. The new floor is done in blackbutt which was delivered 2 weeks before it was laid. Problem is that the finished floor doesn't look smooth. Depending on where you stand and the angle of the light, quite a lot of blocks look wavy (like cupping). No matter where you stand or what the light is like, day or night, the effect is still noticeable. It feels perfectly smooth to walk on in bare feet, just looks uneven. I think there may be a very slight build up of coating along the edges of each block which is giving this effect. It may sound minor but you have to see it - really detracts from the whole look of the floor. The old floor looked completely flat and smooth from any angle. Can any kind knowledgeable person suggest what could be causing this and/or what can be done about it? Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9565 4 14463 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
