Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: Tile, wood laminate or vinyl planks 81Mar 14, 2013 7:39 pm Wow so much great information! I was looking at Karndean flooring. I will not be having carpet in my new home because with two cats it's just not sanitary enough for my liking. So how on earth did you guys decide on the colour?? I initially wanted a gray floor, light to mid tone (due to white cat hair.), but I am concerned it'll make the house feel cold (I also have a great del of dark grey furniture). But I still like it. However a warm wood would be very welcoming and provide a nice contrast, but it will look kind if weird with the black and white checkered tiles I'll be getting in the bathrooms and laundry. The gray would look much better with the tiles. Ahhhhhhh I don't know what to do! Also....we will not be using rugs (due to cats. Dang cats!) so the floor will be a big part of the colours of the house. Here are a couple ideas.... I'm also leaning towards the warmer colors. How do you think 2 and 3 would look with the b & w tiles though? I'm worried that they clash a bit. I looked at the niveus as well but it had too many pink undertones for my liking, whereas the weathered elm (pic 2) has more of a warmth to it. I did see the weathered elm in person and really loved it. There is also a loose lay color, country pine, which is quite nice. A little lighter but a bit of a fusion between gray and brown. I didn't look at the third sample in person as I was fairly keen on the greys, so will order some samples I'm not too concerned about it going out of style. I have always been a massive fan of gray before it was anywhere near in style (and was considered depressing) and suspect I will always love it I was told at the tiles store that I am looking into flooring way too soon since they can get discontinued, but I need to consider flooring now before I make my color selections. These decisions are quite challenging aren't they? It's just my OCD coming through! Lol. I also studied art and I have a compulsion to micromanage colors. Lol. Your selections sound lovely oneness Littlewing if you really want a proper grey then you could always go with the Grano by Karndean...i got the sample and it is grey just like concrete but with wood effect. You know, I do really love the look of polished concrete....... I will call up Karndean and order some samples tomorrow too bad they haven't invented LCD photographic floors yet like digital photo frames. Lol. HD Re: Tile, wood laminate or vinyl planks 90Jul 10, 2013 11:02 pm How did you go with the Serfloor click lock vinyl planks? Any pictures of the finished area? Did you do it yourself? I am thinking of the Serfloor product as it is priced pretty good compared to others but would like to know if anyone has had a good experience with their click lock vinyl planks. Any pics of the serfloor planks installed would help me choose. I want to install it in the living room and kitchen plus rumpus. About 55sqm. I heard you can put them in the bathroom aswell. Is this true or just marketing. I read vinyl planks are water proof...... Thanks in advance for any advice or pics Re: Tile, wood laminate or vinyl planks 91Aug 06, 2013 8:14 pm Tomas How did you go with the Serfloor click lock vinyl planks? I don't have any experience with Serfloor unfortunately, but yes vinyl is excellent in wet areas. That is why I'm leaning towards vinyl as I will not be having any carpet in my house. I think the worst that happens with vinyl is if sufficient liquid gets into the seams the glue probably weakens but one can easily reapply glue and reaffix the vinyl plank. Being that flooring is such a costly investment, it seems a little nuts to me to spend so much money on a laminate that can so easily become damaged and ruined. My family is really pushing for me to get something besides vinyl, and it's starting to get on my last nerve. I think vinyl is so easy to maintain and live with, perfect for those of us who are a bit clumsy and tend to drop or spill things, and those with pets who can sometimes leave unexpected little surprises lol.
