Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 31, 2012 3:17 pm Has anyone used timber-look tiles for their entrance-way (exterior)? We were wanting merbau decking but a builder friend is swaying us toward timber-look tiles for ease of maintenance & longevity. Would love to hear/see from anyone who has them. Re: Timber look tiles ? 2Oct 31, 2012 4:17 pm We are considering these as well - our display home has them on the alfresco and they look amazing! I've also thought that they may make a good cover for a feature column as part of the facade (instead of using stacker stone). Stacker stone is nice but it is very popular. There are 3 or perhaps 4 houses in my short street that all have stacker stone on the facades. How easy are they to clean? They seem to have a rough surface but I didn't have a close look. I saw them for the first time in a tile store 10 days ago and feel in love. I have a cat that would scratch wooden floors so tiles are probably a better option. My intent is to use them in kitchen / entry-hallway and family room. I have googled and found a few manufacturers with impressive looking online galleries. But I'd love to see them laid somewhere Maximus the builder who suggested them instead of timber decking reckons they work well outside - non slip etc Timber look tiles ? 5Nov 01, 2012 6:04 pm I will try to remember to take pics the next time we are at the display home. I want to ask them what the tile is so if I find out I will let you know. The salesperson is going to try to find out the name for me. I very much prefer the plank style. I've seen timber-look tiles that are short and wide and they just woodn't look right (pun intended). One thing that can cause a problem in the pictures above is the lay pattern. When laying these tiles we always recommend an offset no more than 200mm. All tiles are made to a tolerance (one of which is bowing)and even if a tile has a 1mm bow over say 900mm (well within tolerance), once you brick bond them you double the error. This can lead to basket weaving between tiles. If anyone needs any more tips about these tiles just drop me a line. We have a number of examples on our web page. Cheers Picutres of Timber Look Floor Tiles Re: Timber look tiles ? 10Nov 09, 2012 11:47 am Pardon my ignorance - but are these "tiles" what I've been told is a laminate "timber look" flooring ? The pics look like it. some of the "looks" are quite amazing - hard to tell its not wood. Re: Timber look tiles ? 12Nov 24, 2012 4:35 pm Awesome...they look so real...unbelievable to think they are tiles... Curious as to how much they are a square metre in comparison too? I have been to a couple of the well-known tile outlets & they carry very limited colours - can you give us some idea of colour range of outdoor (non slip) tiles ? I am trying to match some merbau features on our facade. Re: Timber look tiles ? 14Dec 02, 2012 8:05 pm The timber looking tiles look really great. I only came across them yesterday when I passed by a tile shop. My understanding (very limited) is that compared to wooden floors, tiles are scratch proof and much longer lasting. However, it seems that cost per square metre to get it laid seems much more than wooden floors? I'm keen to learn more about the tiles as I'm planning to remove carpet from my new home and replace it with wooden flooring. Interested in getting either the Polytec Boston Oak or Palace Peak for kitchen cabinets. Looking at the Boston Oak ones, it appears that the colour varies significantly… 0 9157 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15887 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11569 |
