Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 19, 2012 7:41 pm please help me i am new to this site i am doing a building and construction assignment i came across a subfloor construction but instead of the joist sitting on top of the bearers they wear butt joined to the bearers. Inline with the bearers why is this someone please help me Re: SUBFLOORING 2Oct 30, 2012 7:17 am This defeats the purpose of having joists. Bearers are normally spaced wider apart than joists and the joists come closer together to take the flooring. Typically, joists are set up to be more perfectly level than bearers so one can get a good level floor. The only value that I can think of for your floor is that the FFL Finished Floor Level is closer to the ground. This is not by much but simply the depth of joist. I don't think it is a good idea.
