Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 14, 2012 9:52 am Hi, this is my first post here. I hope to learn from everyone here, as I am a complete beginner at all things house-related. I bought a small townhouse and I can't really change much of it, but I am installing my flooring myself. We would really like to buy a particular brand of bamboo, and we found it on a website of a company called e - flooring (based in QLD). Does anyone know this company and recommend them? I can only afford bamboo at the prices listed on their website (i.e. under $50/m2) ...but I am worried to buy online. Please help me...I have to make my decisions soon. Thank you for reading. Re: Buying flooring online- please help 6Aug 16, 2012 7:25 pm If you want to buy locally in the ACT, then before you do purchase online, maybe email the franchisee in Canberra and see if you can do a deal ! Naturally Bamboo in Natural is available from him and comes with a great suite of warranties and is regarded very highly within the industry as one of the premium qualities available. He can be emailed at tony.mccosker@au.harveynorman.com We hope he can assist you ! Explain to him your situation and if it is worth your while he will do you a simialr price, and you got nothign to loose. There is nothing wrong with buying only. But if I had the choice and th eprice was the same I would rather go into the shop just in case there is an issue, especially when you are spending thousands of dollars. Re: Buying flooring online- please help 9Aug 17, 2012 10:24 pm We have just bought over 100 sqm of bamboo from HN for self install. Give them a ring you might be surprised. The biggest plus is you get a "name brand" and a company that actually honour any warranty should it be needed. We have chosen to do a blend of colours for our flooring....hence the 3 stacks. Which three colours are you blending delatite13? Will you be taking off the skirting or using scotia? It is my first time to put in flooring so I am so excited and nervous Re: Buying flooring online- please help 14Aug 19, 2012 11:49 am As it's a new build we're leaving the skirting off and putting in place after laying, Going to mix natural, 60% carbonised 30% and antique 10%. Our house is a new build too but the builder could not leave the skirting off so we are having them installed and then taking it off...hopefully it won't be too difficult. Re: Buying flooring online- please help 17Aug 23, 2012 11:18 pm Mark S Tell the builder to just tack the skirtings on. Hi Mark S, Thanks for your comment. I read about tacking (somewhere on this forum) and asked my builder, but he said there is no such thing as "tacking" and that he can only install it as normal, or give them to me raw...which means I have to cut it and paint it, which will take me forever (as a total beginner at DIY)... So I opted to have them fully installed and I am going to try and take them off without destroying the walls/paint. If you know a lot about tacking, could you explain to me what it actually is? Is it different from nailing it in? Can any builder tack on the skirting without extra cost? Sorry to ask so much... Re: Buying flooring online- please help 18Aug 24, 2012 11:03 am He just needs to cut the skirts to fit, but not fully nail them to the wall. Just thought of something. With nail guns used almost exclusively now, they forget the old school, hammer and nail. How hard is it to just part drive in an occasional nail to hold it????? You will most likely damage the wall, and/or skirting , if you are not extremely careful, if he fully installs them. Re: Buying flooring online- please help 19Aug 29, 2012 2:17 pm Thanks so much Mark S, you gave me the courage to ask my builder again. If I understand correctly, you cannot use nail guns (e.g. use fewer nails) to tack on the skirting, it has to be hand nailed? The installer will probably come with a nail gun but since it is such an easy task, I hope he can be flexible. Mark S He just needs to cut the skirts to fit, but not fully nail them to the wall. Re: Buying flooring online- please help 20Aug 29, 2012 2:24 pm I have another question regarding flooring...should the bamboo be laid all in the same direction, i.e. the living room, bedrooms, etc. or differently per room, depending on where the doors/windows are? I think it must be easiest (and least wastage) to lay it parallel to the longest part of the house (i.e. not across the corridor as it would require short planks)? Sorry I am not good at explaining this...I hope someone will know what I mean. Yeah I don't know why I came to a forum. Place is full of wierdos/pedos thought internet may help but I suppose I'll try my luck with someone in person. Cheers.
