Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 01, 2012 12:36 am Hope you can assist. We found out today that our flooring compnay (in Perth) has gone into liquidation and with our install date supposed to be only 3-4 weeks away we are in a bit of a bind. Obviously $$$ down the toilet as its unlikely we will get anything back. We were supposed to have laid around 90m2 of Blackbutt in our new house (solid timber). We need to now quickly find a reputable price friendly company to deal with. However after speaking to one company they were pushing us down the direction of engineered boards. I guess to cut a long story short, whats peoples experience with engineered boards and can anyone recommend a company in Perth to contact for the installation of around 90m2 of timber flooring. Alternatively, can anyone tell me who to stay away from Thanks all, appreciate your help Shane Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 2Aug 02, 2012 8:51 am Engineered floors can look OK, though to me they look similar to laminate (improved greatly) - ie, you can tell they're pre-finished, especially when looking down a long passage. Solid timber gives you that seamless look wherever you are, and a nicer finish all round. + re-sanding ability. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. I'm not aware of reputable flooring guys in Perth. Speaking to some local (known) custom builders would the place I'd start. Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 3Aug 02, 2012 11:19 am Hi Shane, Sorry to hear of your problems with the other company. I am the owner of Bosch Timber Floors and we specialise in timber floors from laminate through to solid timber floors. We would be happy to provide you with assistance and offer you advice on all options. Engineered timber can be a good product depending on your preferences and lifestyle. A good engineered timber is not always cheaper than a solid timber floor and it will very much depend on the manufacturer of the product nd how it is installed. We are in Wangara and Myaree and if you wanted to contact us we would be happy to explain the options available including different grades and alternate timbers. Hi Can you enlighten me on this at all? Currently trying to get timber flooring and getting more and more confused each time I speak with different people. Also, of the limited reviews, they seem to be mixed, so still not sure who to go with (though are using afta members, but even been told some of them aren't so good!) Also been told to check ABNs, etc which brought your query to my attention! It's been more hassle getting these "after-completion" jobs done than getting the whole house built Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 7Feb 16, 2014 12:01 pm I met with Perth Timber Floors in Mount Lawley who have been around for a long time. I think at a certain level of quality wood with a similar quality of laying the prices are fairly consistent. Initially I thought about getting the lower priced all in packages but I am concerned on the overall finish and whether the company will be there tomorrow, hence why I started looking at the more established ones. Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 8May 14, 2014 2:01 am The black butt engineered floorboards supplied by Bosch Timber Floors will split apart exposing the tounge and groove joint after two weeks of being laid and if this is not rectified immediately then it will spread to the surrounding boards causing a trip hazard. Whether this is a manufacturer's fault or installation fault, this question is yet to be answered as Richard the Owner/General Manager will not return my phone calls. The black butt floor board tongue's are made out of cheap chipboard and not ply. Bosch timber floors will not honour its obligations in relation to statuatory warranty claims. I won't be recommending your company to anyone. Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 9May 17, 2014 11:11 am We were in Planet Timbers in Osborne Park yesterday. They had a Bosch display of engineered flooring, but the manager drew our attention to it & said "Bosch have discontinued that line".
We were going to go for engineered flooring, & thought we would go for the 21mm thick flooring (6mm solid oak top layer with 15mm multiply base) as the general consensus seems to be that it's a "better quality" product than the 14.5mm product that most people seem to stock. Turns out it's very difficult to source in Perth. Pure Timber Flooring have it (imported from China), & the owner was quick to respond to my emails re new colours. However, when I asked for the contact numbers of several of his testimonials that are in my suburb (Mosman Pk), initially he didn't reply, & after a 2nd email he claimed that it was very time-consuming & if we paid a 6% deposit he would give us the contacts??!! I sent him another email yesterday asking for just 1 contact (no charge) but he hasn't replied yet. His reluctance & attempt at dissuading (6% deposit, what the...??) to supply contact details of his "testimonials" makes me very suspicious. Our builder recommended Havwoods, however they're Melbourne-based. Planet Timbers have the thicker engineered board (as well as the 14.5mm), but after vowing we wouldn't do solid floors again, we have decided to go down the same path. Last time we went for karri. My partner wants a lighter colour this time. We like WA blackbutt, but apparently it's in short supply & thus expensive. NSW blackbutt is very popular here, but the colour doesn't appeal to us. Has anyone had any experience with marri? It has a lot of feature detail of course, which many people don't like. Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 10May 17, 2014 6:46 pm Had solid timber for 4 years absolutely love it. Warm in winter. The only way to get a timber floor installed cheaply is to do it yourself an get someone to sand and polish. should be looking around 120 per squaremeter. Re: Timber Flooring Assistance 11Dec 07, 2016 6:53 pm I noticed that Planet Timbers came up on this thread and wanted to provide my experience of using them recently to install their Levande Bamboo product throughout my whole home. Suffice to say I was not pleased, here is my email detailing my complaint to their installation manager: I seriously regret choosing Planet Timbers to complete my installation and consider your offer simply a continuation of the substandard service provided. At every step of the way I was misled about your business and the product: Instead of being hardwearing the product scratches easily. Instead of a quality install from a team of staff taking utmost care and working 4 days (as described to me when I questioned the expense of the quote compared to competitors) I got a rush job from a single contractor in 2 days. Instead of undercut door frames I got bodgily cutout bamboo around the frames. Instead of getting the job rectified simply and with minimal disturbance I have had you guys through twice since the job and still you want me to go and take photos when you had the opportunity to properly inspect yourself. Instead of waste materials being disposed of neatly they were left on my property and on top of the floors. Instead of getting floors ready to move in they needed a good clean beforehand. Instead of professional service from your installer I was asked for a secret cash payment within 5 minutes of him entering my house to complete the install as I had purchased it. Instead of care taken on my freshly painted property I was left with multiple marks and indents on the walls. Instead of neat scotia I was left with scotia with multiple holes, falling off the walls, spilt, improperly aligned and with multiple sticking out nails that could cut my young children's feet. Instead of boards properly installed I have multiple areas where boards were cut too small for a proper installation requiring the ripping up of boards and relaying. Instead of the job being completed on time when the house was empty it is to be completed after it has been filled by furniture, lived in and worked from maximising the disturbance because your contractor and boss decided to take two weeks leave the day after the install. I have multiple photos to show the state of the job as it was left, a level of install worthy of a cheap Gumtree job not the thousands of dollars premium charged by your business over other reputable businesses (we only went with you and paid the premium because we were led time and time again to believe what we were getting was superior and not in alignment with what we received). The business is arranging to fix some of these faults which they consider only minor (hate to see what happens to their installs before they consider it major!) but don't appear to care less for the inconvenience they caused expecting me to pay up for a premium install I didn't receive. We paid $1000 to $3000 more for their product over other quotes we received as we were led to believe it was worth paying them a premium for their standard of work and product. I should have paid attention to the fact they had virtually zero online positive reviews (very unusual for a company trading for 20 years or more and indicative that they have had to hide from review sites for fear of bad press). To anyone reading this I would suggest that better value can be had elsewhere. They charged me a premium and provided less than a budget job. Sometimes price isn't the indicator of quality we think it is. looks ok to me, round logs retaining walls are better than sleeper walls, more even preservative treatment and stronger since they include the whole tree and not just part… 1 2594 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15840 |
