Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 21Oct 09, 2012 9:41 pm So my Vinyl planks were finished being put in today and here are some pics. The floor is still very dusty but I think it looks great. We went through a number of choices before we found a colour (Sapelle from the Harvey Norman Allure range) that blends with the jarrah skirting boards and architraves. Having said that, the product is marked as a DIY but the Sapelle only comes in the direct stick and not the click lock. Seeing what the installers did, there is no way I would have been able to do such a good job. But anyway, onto the piccies. First being installed Then the finished (but still very dusty) product Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. (timber look floors) 23Oct 10, 2012 5:46 am Love that floor! We are putting down Gerflor Spotted Gum everywhere except the bedrooms & bathrooms & I was but concerned that the vast expanses of 'timber look' might look a bit fake, but having seen yours I am very excited. (timber look floors) 29Oct 10, 2012 9:52 pm They are really good. The 'Knight Tiles' we laid in our kitchen 10 years ago (that still look fabulous) were laid black & white on the diagonal with 'gold' grout (strips). Grout that never discolours and so easy to keep looking clean (mop - steam mop better). Dog hairs, dirt and scratches not noticable. Their timber plank range is beautiful ... endless colour range. I just noticed they now have a 'pebble' and industrial metal range - interesting. They also offer free samples through their website www.karndean.com.au - worth checking out if you are considering a vinyl floor. We've been impressed with how they've held up. Still look as good as when we first laid. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 30Oct 22, 2012 2:41 pm I installed my Allure floor last week (Milano Linen). Happy so far. (timber look floors) 31Apr 21, 2013 9:59 am DazzaB your flooring looks great! We're thinking of doing the same too, DIY Vinyl Planks installation after builder handover...tho we have a question for all you folks who've been there done that. How does everyone take care of the issues with the skirtings? Did you request for the builder to leave a specific amount of gap between the concrete slab and the skirting? Or did you simply take out the skirting and reinstall them over the planks thereafter? And then how about the sides against the kitchen bench/kickboards, and the dividing line that transitions from planks to carpet? Thanks in advance! (timber look floors) 32May 27, 2013 10:39 am We decided to pay the builders mark up (20%) for them to do the vinyl planks so as to make sure it was done right. As for the skirting, they just tack them on so they can be painted, then when they flooring people come in they jusy pop them off and reinstall them over the top of the planks. We thought it was worth the extra for the builder to do the flooring so it will be covered by their warranty. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 33May 27, 2013 10:53 am Ours look great - and seem to change "colour" (depth, grade) - ie morning, noon and night. Depends on which direction you look at them. At night they look best - with lights on. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 35May 30, 2013 9:12 pm dexx Ive only looked at Karndean flooring before. Do any of you have recommendations as to any better value for money? ie hard-wearing verses cost? Allure Plus planks are $49 but because they are eaay DIY and can tolerate going direct over concrete, timber ans even some tiles floors without much (if any) floor prep, they actually work out to be less expensive than traditionally installed ones and because they have a lifetime residential warranty they are better value for money ! Easy Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 36Jun 05, 2013 7:05 am Our Gerflor planks went in yesterday & I love them! Would definitely recommend to anyone considering timber look flooring options. Installer said they sell everything & he tries to convince everyone to put them in as they outperform anything else on the market. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 37Jun 05, 2013 4:03 pm Just a question do they lay anything under the planks first?? we were looking at the vinyl planks today and they sales guy told us they lay them straight over the concrete slab. they reason i am wondering as they are so thin and then when it meets the tiles in the laundry and entrance there will be a minor step. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 38Jun 05, 2013 4:32 pm The ones here were laid straight over the concrete slab. They are quite thick. The slab needs to be smooth without pits or raised bits otherwise you will get wear spots. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 39Jun 05, 2013 5:11 pm Ours were also laid straight over the concrete. The installers made sure the finish was perfect before laying & put a trim across bathroom/laundry entrances so that difference in heights was not an issue. Would not recommend DIY. Looking at the Boston Oak ones, it appears that the colour varies significantly… 0 9157 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15887 |
