Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 22, 2012 10:07 pm Hi all,
Just after some advise, we love the timber floor (spotted gum) look but are finding the floating floors in our current home easy to scratch which isn't ideal with children. What are our options for timber/timber look floors? What's the price difference and what would you select? TIA Re: Timber vs Bamboo vs Vinyl etc. (timber look floors) 2Jul 27, 2012 6:52 pm Bump.... anyone? Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Timber vs Bamboo vs Vinyl etc. (timber look floors) 3Jul 27, 2012 9:50 pm I'm looking at installing vinyl planks, the build has been delayed again, this time upto a month Installation will occur post-handover. Vinyl planks are an alternative to timber, the cost varies a lot between brands. Anywhere between $20 - $80/sqm plus laying costs of approx $20/sqm. You can get vinyl tiles. And roll vinyl. What are our options for timber/timber look floors? What's the price difference and what would you select? TIA I guess it depends on many factors. A solid timber floor will always have a superior looking finish, yet is obviously the most expensive option. Pre finished timber, to me, always looked exactly that... pre-finished. Simple fact.. all timber will scratch. Pre-finished, polished hard wood, bamboo.. whatever it is, rough treatment will show. I've noticed a lot of the mainstream builders are using timber laminate (not engineered timber veneer), as an affordable upgrade from tiles. I know a couple of people in the industry who say that Bamboo is by FAR the biggest seller currently. It is a very hard wearing product, but will still scratch. If I was you I'd check out the new range of timber laminate... You could always update to real timber once the kiddies are grown up. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 6Aug 11, 2012 10:15 am I think we've settled on vinyl planks but would love to hear your feedback on this.... Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Vinyl planks? I am also going vinyl plank as the floating floor in my old house would bubble at the joints easily and kids spill a lot of stuff. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. (timber look floors) 12Aug 13, 2012 8:48 pm I did a very thorough analysis on what flooring to use. I ended up using allure lock ... Mainly because its waterproof. We have a young dog so he'll prob wee on the floor .... For that reason I didn't want to take the risk with laminate or timber. I haven't moved into New place yet .. so I'll give an update in a couple of.weeks. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 13Aug 13, 2012 11:43 pm Vinyl plank is the family flooring where we are ATM. It's very hard wearing, easy to clean (2 dogs) and most people ask what kind of timber it is... Definitely a good option. We've been here two years and no problem with it at all. Would recommend it as an option, this was a good quality brand, European I believe. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 14Aug 17, 2012 1:50 pm Our build won't be finished before next year, but at this stage we are planning to go with the Gerflor vinyl planks. Of the floors we've seen laid, we really couldn't tell that it wasn't timber. Also like the warranty & the fact that it won't warp or lift if you have a liquid spill (ie washing machine, dishwasher, pets & kids!). I initially had trouble with the concept of 'vinyl' given I am a 70's child & remember my mum's lino kitchen floor, but have since been convinced that this is the way to go! Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 15Sep 13, 2012 4:40 pm We used the Allure Loc floors in our new house - we had handover about 3 weeks ago and my husband layed the planks himself. PM me if you would some pictures or ask any questions etc - I'd be glad to help. Em Re: Vinyl planks? We are also looking into vinyl planks and I'm very interested in any feedback/advice. Re: Vinyl planks? (timber look floors) 17Oct 05, 2012 8:38 am We are getting the Allure in Sapelle laid on Monday. Will post pics after it is done. This is not the lock system but the stick system but still in planks. My back was not a fan when we had to pick up and carry it all into the house for acclimatisation (1.2 ton of it!) Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river.
