The supervisor said that it can look nice just stained, so I may not even need to have a carpet runner (I hate vacuuming stairs). Hello natbut do you really reckon this will look ok ? I mean staining MDF directly, it will mean saving over $3000 for us instead of using a Maple staircase ! I'm really not sure. I've never seen it before. I'm trying to have a bit of a look on the internet to see any pictures. I don't know if this will work but I thought I'd get myself a plank of MDF and stain it and see what it comes up like. I'd love to see any pics if anyone has done this. Re: Floating Floor on Stairs 24Mar 31, 2008 1:02 pm Hi all,
it will come up yellowish - if that's what you want. Also, it has to be sealed EXCEPTIONALLY well, otherwise the slightest bit of moisture that gets under the sealing, will swell the customwood. THe result is much like a blister. It's pretty unattractive. Re: Floating Floor on Stairs 25Mar 31, 2008 7:23 pm Luke said

Why walk to the shed each time - the job needs doing right here, so I can do it much quicker with my bench setup inside the house. Jobs done in 2 weekend, and now it;s done. I like that look VJ - we also considered timber treads and painted risers. It can look very effective. Re: Floating Floor on Stairs 29Apr 01, 2008 5:18 pm natbut I'm hoping to get floating flooring done on my stairs and someone said to me that I need to be careful its not a tripping hazard if the stairs have a bullnose edge. I checked with the builder and they are 25mm bullnose edge. What do I need to make sure the flooring people do so that its not a tripping hazard? Natbut, here's a thread about stairs that Michelle helped me out with - might be useful for you?? https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=5302 Eimaj Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3002 To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even.
