Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 11, 2012 2:28 pm I have some carpet I am going to rip up due to much staining from pets and young children. I want flooring that is very resilient and doesn't stain, so carpet is out, and probably timber due to dog claws scratching it. I have very limited experience with home renovations, so I'm looking for some advice regarding vinyl flooring and bamboo flooring or a similar alternative. My key requirements 1. Scratch Resistant. 2. Resistant to long explosure to fluids. 3. Easy to maintain. I'd prefer to spend a lot more money and not have to maintain it,t hat go a bit cheaper. I've been to one place in Western Australia and been given a quote of $65 a square metre installed for polyflor vinyl. Re: Advice on reasonable prices for vinyl and bamboo floorin 2Jun 12, 2012 6:32 pm You could look at Allure Lock. It's a commercial grade PVC floating floor with the licensed unilin clicking system. Because it has a ceramic bead coating on top of a commercial .5 wear layer, it will withstand household wear and tear very well. As you can apply a simple polish on top with a mop, you can fill any scratches easily. If one is super nasty, because there is no glue and it's a click system, you can simply replace a piece here and there as required. Lastly, because it has no adhesive in it and is PVC, water is no problem with it and you could have prolonged exposure with absolutely no issues whatsoever. It comes in timber designs and also ceramic designs and they can even be mixed up if you want to create different areas in the house (ie tile style in a bathroom but timber style in hallways and living etc). Allure Lock. The original click system PVC floor that started the trend worldwide. Still regarded as the best of its kind by Unilin, the company who licenses the clicking system it uses. The thickness of the actual wear layer that protects you from damaging the decor layer (or the picture) that you are walking on Re: Advice on reasonable prices for vinyl and bamboo floorin 6Jun 20, 2012 9:04 pm Camber Thanks. What underlay would you recommend? Well of its going on a concrete subfloor it doesn't require any, just a dry(ish) subfloor and a reasonably level one (3mm per meter max variation). On timber or particle board subfloors, it's the same although in the case of the concrete floor, where you can either grind back high points or fill with a compound the low points, with the timber floors you usually would smooth it out with a Masonite underlay if it was ba enough to warrant that. That's the benefit of Allure Grip and Allure Lock, they don't require the normal level of floor preparation that a traditional stick down product requires. In some cases, subfloors are si bad that even the Allure range requires floor prep though. Your local store can come out, or in some cases even have their vinyl installer visit your home free of charge to advise on these related concerns though.
