Let's put the question a little differently: If you had money and the price was the same, which one would you pick? Bamboo or Laminated Quickstep floor? Bamboo or Quick-Step 3Jun 08, 2012 6:54 am I can only comment on bamboo so far but will have a comparison once our house is finished. We installed bamboo in our previous abode and I will never go it again. We went with it due to the sales hype of thick solid boards with a hard wear coating. Thick board yes. Hard wearing no. It only took 1 day of an office chair to severely scratch the surface. Also having a dog fine scratches were everywhere(granted only seen in right light but). Maybe there is different qualities but for us it's a no go product now. We got ours from horrimber timber and blinds, was the click lock easy fit type boards 14mm thick This house we have gone laminate flooring. Time will tell if the decision was right but after viewing other display homes which have it hopefully we will be happy MDJ Homes - Bordeaux 14 + now with improvements Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 4Jun 08, 2012 7:33 am Hi, We had bamboo flooring put down in our new home 12 months ago and it is brilliant. We bought it through Bamboozle and it has undergone the rigors of having a mass of kiddies aged between 1yr to 18 yrs (11 of them) running through it with sand on their feet, toys being dropped and dragged across it etc. After a quick clean with an Enjo broom/mop, it has returned to it's beautiful self. Supergran Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 5Jun 08, 2012 12:05 pm Hmm... anyone has any feedback on Quick-Step? My understanding that it's some kind of a new product or am I wrong? Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 6Jun 11, 2012 11:12 pm Hello, The Quick-Step product is not a new product. It is a brand that has been around for over 15 years. Maybe you are referring to their Colonial range, which is a fairly new product? I had some very good experiences with the Quick-Step products: very superior technical qualities and just beautiful floors. As far as laminate goes, you won't find any better than this. Bamboo on the other hand is also a good product. The hype of the moment, with many people putting that in their houses now. It is not as green as most people think though just a block of glue with some grass fibres in it doesn't make it a natural product Back to your question: it all depends on what you want to achieve I guess. Quick-Step is easy to install and has a nice range of colours and textures. Once on the floor, no person can see the difference with the real wood planks. Bamboo is nice as well, but I didn't put it into my house in the end as I wanted a 'lasting timeless look', not a hype (personal of course). Do be careful with the bamboo products. There are lots of cheap scratch-sensitive products out there. A good rule of thumb: if they sell it as 'thick so it is good quality', step away from it Thickness has nothing to do with quality and wear resistance, it is the top layer that does all the magic. I think Quick-Step has an anti-scratch-layer for that. Hope this helps a bit. Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 7Jun 11, 2012 11:28 pm PeterLayer Hello, The Quick-Step product is not a new product. Sales rep asked us one question that made us think: Do you want your floor to look the same in 10 years - then choose QuickStep, if you want it to change colour - then you can get Bamboo or Timber. Don't really think I like the colour of fading timber in the house.... Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 8Jun 12, 2012 5:53 am The laminate will fade, as it is a photograph of the real thing. The timber floor will darken as it oxidizes, just like our skin does when we get a suntan CALL 1300GOHARVEY www.harveynormanflooring.com.au Carpet, Rugs, Timber, Bamboo, Laminate, Vinyl & Vinyl Tiles TIMBERMAX Real Australian Hardwood Flooring IN STORES NOW Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 9Jun 12, 2012 6:18 pm Forgot the bamboo - if it is the natural color, it will darken, if it is the carbon / coffee color it will slightly lighten up with sun, and if it is stained it should stay much the same as the day you purchased it. Timber cannot be treated like laminate or tiles without repercussions. Furniture with no felt / rubber protectors, dogs, shoes - especially women's heels etc, will scratch up ANY timber floor. The price you pay for having the best underfoot, most attractive type of flooring. Re: Bamboo or Quick-Step 11Jul 27, 2012 10:47 pm We have Quick-step "Eligna" laminate (Light Grey Varnished Oak color) in kitchen, family room, meals area, entry and stairs (72 square metres in total). Very happy with it, looks as good as the day it was installed after 2 years. No scratches or marks, and everyone who sees it thinks it's real timber. Other than putting felt under the dining chairs, we don't take any special care with it, just sweep/vacuum it once a week and wipe away any spills or stains with a damp cloth. We got ours from Floorworld, they let us take large samples home to see it in different lights. It's not the cheapest brand, but with laminate you get what you pay for, so don't be tempted by cheap brands. I have to say I have never seen Quickstep that has faded. This is a genuine question as I get asked it when I am selling it & I can't say I have ever seen any laminate that has faded. This maybe due to taking an extended period of time & is so small that it isnt noticeable unless you had a piece kept in the cupboard & compared it 10 years later.... We have Quickstep 800 3 strip in a Local Hotel that was installed around 1998 & still looks ok. It lived its first few years as the nightclub dancefloor on Friday & Saturday nights & the Hotel Dining Room for the rest of the time. It is still the Hotel Dining Room floor & probaly has another 10 years in it. the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11835 Do I need to concern about this pattern of crack?
