Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 30, 2012 1:05 pm Hi everyone, so we just bought our house and i have a serious issue with the tiles left from the previous owners. This is a 60s home and they did a reno maybe 15 years back, laying down new tiles and carpet. Is there a rule of thumb that says that there would be useable floorboards underneath either (or both) I am really hoping to discover some floorboards! Someone tell me it is possible!! Re: Floorboards under cement sheet 2May 30, 2012 1:28 pm I'm guessing your wanting to pull up the floor coverings and polish the timber? Are you able to get under the floor and look from the bottom? This will tell you if there are boards there but may not give you an accurate idea of there condition. I guess the easy way is rip up the carpet in the corner of as many rooms as you can. As for under the tiles, well that will be pot luck. Re: Floorboards under cement sheet 3May 30, 2012 3:16 pm A lot of our work involves removal of floor coverings and restoring the timber boards to new. It is most likely that there will be no dramas. If the tiles have been glued to masonite sheeting which has been fixed to the boards the job is somewhat easier Cheers Re: Floorboards under cement sheet 4May 30, 2012 4:39 pm thanks for giving me some hope! Do you know roughly how much per sqm labour is for floor removal and restoration? We wouldnt be touching the floors with the quotes we were given for new floors, so hoping there is budget friendly option!!
