This site is great. I've spent hours looking through posts!
The carpet in our bedroom is old and needs replacing in anticipation of our first child. I'm currently trying to choose between laminate and bamboo flooring for the job.
I prefer the feel of bamboo, but laminate flooring seems to have an established base of brands (ie. Quickstep) that have been around for awhile so I know warranties will be honoured etc.
What I've noticed is that depending on who you go to, the price point for bamboo flooring varies greatly and can be quite close to laminate. I've received quotes for 4k for 50sqm (http://strandwovenflooring.com.au), all the way up to 10k for 50sqm (Andersen's).
The floor that this new material will be laid on is wood, and I have been told by Andersen's that it might have unevenness that won't show until the carpet has been removed.
Is there any reason I should avoid getting "cheaper" bamboo flooring installed? Or are there any boxes that I need to tick before going ahead? Do any of you have nightmare stories / happy endings to share?
