Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 10, 2012 8:31 pm We are getting floating floorboards and was advised to get them glued. I was told glueing them would make them feel more solid and that is it very popular. Can you please tell me is this a good idea and what the difference is. Re: Floating floorboards glued 2May 10, 2012 8:44 pm The reason why they are called floating floors is so boards can be removed if they are damaged. Glueing them would be up to you, but if your going to glue them you might as well have real timber laid. What you should be describing them as is the eco friendly option (engineered) and the eco wasteful option (solid). Some argue that engineered are also more dimensionally stable too. If engineered boards are indeed installed via a glue down installation then the net result is a variation of only 2mm on average to that of a solid board. So as the price is generally far greater solid (sanding etc) it's becoming more and more popular. Due to price constraints, time constraints and people's increasing interest in the environment, their will always be a place for engineered boards.
