Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 04, 2012 3:32 pm Hi, just wondering if anyone here has a sisal blend rug? I'm wondering if it's easy to clean. It will be placed under our dining table on tiled floor. I want a neutral rug to suit either cedar shutters, or bamboo or wooden blinds.... and I am hoping it is a low allergy choice compared to other rugs? I've also heard that the wool blend is soft underfoot? Re: Anyone have a sisal/wool blend rug? 2May 04, 2012 7:05 pm Natural sisals are the last thing I would recommend for low allergy. They are very hard to keep the dust out of. To my knowledge is no sisal blend on the market. They are all a pure jute, coir or sisal fibre. Carpet cleaners I've spoken to say that any rugs or floor coverings with natural sisal fibre are virtually uncleanable. Highly absorbent, so they can stain quite easily. And they are very prone to shrinking and buckling, even with low moisture cleaning methods. Unless your talking about a wool blend sisal look carpet? You would be better to consider a wool rug from someone like The Rug Collection in their Cross Weave range as it gives you a similar look. www.therugcollection.com.au They are a wholesaler, not a retailer, but can direct you to a retailer in your local area. Cross Weave rugs are very popular at the moment. Ok, so here's the thing. I don't really 'want' a rug under the dining table. Our living/dining is an all in one great room style and we have purchased a turkish rug to define the seating area around the fireplace. My darling also reckoned we should've bought an identical rug for under the dining table to zone that area, but I don't really want one. What do you think? I didn't want two as I will have enough going on colourwise. That's why I was thinking of something neutral and natural, if I had to. But will it look okay without a rug? My dining table is quite substantial, english walnut, when it has all its leaves in, it seats 16 comfortably. Re: Anyone have a sisal/wool blend rug? 6May 04, 2012 8:43 pm From a decorators point of view.... in one large space visible to the eye, the same rug in each space is the way to go. If we can't match it now I guess we will just have to go without. We are having a large chandelier over the table, as there are raking ceilings, will that help 'zone' the area??? Re: Anyone have a sisal/wool blend rug? 8May 04, 2012 8:57 pm You can choose a colour in the original rug and get a rug with that colour in it. Zones are always defined with the placement of furniture and lighting. YES, should have opened the wallet a bit more! I also have an open area of kitchen / dining / family with a rug in the family area and my table is an 8 seater with felt on all legs because it sits on a wooden floor. Turkish rugs are normally busy so I think if you only have one of them it will be fine. Regards, Grumbles Re: Anyone have a sisal/wool blend rug? 10May 04, 2012 10:09 pm Yeah, it has a "washed out" or faded look, that particular finish to my mind gives a comfortable, worn in feel to the room, sort of shabby country style without actual shabbiness Just a thought, we might need an actual carpet piece under the table if we use it extended fully!! Usually we take one leaf out but it's a pain finding someplace to store it. My toes are allergic!! Did you know that you can get rugs made from carpet? So much cheaper than buying a shop rug. So many styles to choose from, but you won't get the highly patterned… 0 6280 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
