Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 26, 2012 4:42 pm We have never had floorboards before but have decided to do 5 rooms. We have white walls and the house is 25 years old. We have a few dark antique pieces of furniture. What colour is best that would be hard wearing, not show the dirt and look great. We have 2 small dogs at home and a few adults. My husband likes spotted gum and I would not have a clue. Re: Best floating floorboard colour 2Apr 26, 2012 8:03 pm I'm a fan of the Spotted Gum. Are talking about the timber flooring or laminate? And timber goes with everything. So what colour goes with white.....the one you both like the best. The amount of natural light you have- again light would suit as it will lighten up the room. If your house is large and spacious then I would go darker as I think it looks more natural. I only say this as this is what I am going through at the moment, we have a small area with not much light so a light colour (natural) suits us. We are using Bamboo flooring as they are very hard wearing from all reports, if they had a janka rating then it would be harder than most natural wooden floors. Obviously take into account your existing furnishings as you want it to look good, however you will over time change these so a mid range colour may go well Then there is the full gloss, semi gloss and flat discussion, this is a preference and each with pro's and con's especially cleaning and seeing marks that are inevitable. Thats my thoughts on it, anywhere from light to dark depending on your surrounds. Cheers Re: Best floating floorboard colour 7Apr 28, 2012 2:27 pm Hi, you'll find a discussion on this thread re bamboo vs wood floors as far as wear and tear goes. I wouldn't go for a light floor with antiques, but anything from mid honey browns to darker colours looks fine. The dark bamboo can look stunning with white walls, but personally I'm a fan of spotted gum. Just wish I could afford it!! viewtopic.php?f=7&t=55248&p=848812#p848812 Joe Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap. Not sure where you are but if you are in Sydney I can… 5 4345 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6141 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3002 |
