Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 25, 2012 10:13 am Hi everyone I'm new to the board and hope this question isn't too broad. Due to a burst water pipe, I am about to have my lounge room carpet replaced. I live in a two bedroom duplex - carpet in the lounge room, two bedrooms (small) and a 2m long 'hallway'. I'm thinking the insurance company will only cover me for the area that is damaged - possibly the whole lounge room. For a while though, I've been thinking of getting rid of the carpet anyway. It's not that attractive and I have an indoor cat that likes to sharpen her claws on it I haven't discussed the option of not putting down carpet again with the insurance company yet. As money is very, very short (as it is with most people I guess), I'm looking for ideas on an alternative that will be near to the cost of carpet - if not cheaper I have no idea about these things... Any thoughts/experiences? All ideas welcome, thanks. Re: Floor Covering Options 2Apr 25, 2012 11:10 am Your insurance will cover the lounge and passage if the passage doesn't had a door on it. If it does, it will be classed as a separate room. Generally that's how it is anyway. In respect to hard flooring that is the same price as average carpet, you need to look at laminate we would suggest. You can also save money by fitting it yourself, with a couple of friends. I am clueless - can you give me some laminate ideas/brand names? The carpet I have now seems to be about the cheapest there is. It was a rental property before I bought it. Carpet Court are currently selling it for $29 per metre laid. I'm not sure I'll get anything non-carpet for that price... got it. thanks.
