Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 07, 2008 8:58 am I'm starting to have second thoughts about the flooring that I've decided to go with. I'm only at first fix so I have time to change my mind.
Here is my plan: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/n ... rPlan1.jpg It's quite a small place. I was orignally wanting solid timber in the living room / kitchen and carpet in the bedroom, study and on the stairs (due to budget), but I decided the place is too small to have such a mix. So then I thought floating floors (again due to budget) in the living room / kitchen & stairs and carpet in the bedroom & study. But I'm wondering if anyone would have some other suggestions. I have a maximum budget of $6,000. I'm not going throught the builder as there options looked very cheap. Hope someone can help. Re: What flooring should I have?? 4Mar 07, 2008 9:52 am Ah ok, cool, well then natbut, I think if that's what the $$ allow then I'd go with that over mixed flooring from stairs to living. I'd actually continue it into the study and bedroom. For stairs, the laminate is glued to the stairs without an underlay. I think Ash said "no timber in studys with caster chairs" (is that right Ash?) The carpet in bed and study will make the place seem warmer as well, nothing like getting out of bed onto nice soft carpet. Re: What flooring should I have?? 10Mar 07, 2008 10:45 pm Main question here is how long do you realistically think you will live with the floorcoverings you choose. Some folk build on a limited budget, and fit basic floor-coverings with a view to replacing them after 5 or so years with what they really want. A fair plan!
If that were me in that scenario, I'd put a cheap polypropylene loop pile carpet in the bedroom and study and loungeroom. Vinyl to the kitchen and meals area. The stairs.....hmmmm I hate hard stairs. I don't think laminate flooring, as it requires a trim to cover the nosing of each step. This can be catchy, leading to tripping. Vinyl is possible but hard. I reckon carpet here. Again, cheap polyprop directly stuck. You'd have to choose where the carpet and vinyl meet across the living area, and a trim covering them. This option may well come in under $4k. Save your $$$ for what you want to put in later! I'm off to pray before bed now! Ash. Hi All, I just wanted to close this topic out with an update.
