Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 06, 2012 10:30 pm Our dilemma - I have fallen in love with a tile, but I'm just a little unsure if it will work as the main floor tile for our house (to be built). Fabrique Gris Linen http://products.daltile.com/series.cfm?series=228& It's a soft grey with very very thin lines of white, cream, brown, grey and dark grey overlaid. It's a matt-style porcelain tile (so not glossy). It comes in 300x300mm, 300x600mm and 600x600mm. I like this tile because it's got good colour variation, has depth but is not a dark tile. Plus, dirt and sand are unlikely to stand out on this tile. The main tile for our house needs to cover our entry, entrance hall to the main common area (living room, dining area and kitchen - all open plan). With the number of windows and doors we are having, it will be quite a bright area (highlight windows with raked ceiling). We were planning to use the 600x600mm tiles. I have started to second guess because the salesperson said "Oh, you guys going for a trendy ultra-modern look?" Um, no ..... Thoughts? 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). Coming from someone wearing beige no doubt. I love those tiles, I'm putting the grey on my shower walls when I get to that part of my reno. Go for it and be proud of them, I think they make a really unusual floor tile and will be be a talking point when people come to visit! My concern is that I'm not a particularly flamboyant or "out there!" person when it comes to colour myself. I liked this tile because I thought it looked interesting & (I thought) was fairly conservative without looking same-same and bland. But maybe it would be too much for the whole common areas living space? Maybe we should just use them in the bathroom and stick with a "safer" tile for the main living area?? I keep looking at the sample tile and thinking "I *do* like you". Just I'm not sure if I will regret a decision to use them everywhere. They will be used somewhere in our house, I just need to decide where! 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! We're in the design phase .... tile choice 4Mar 07, 2012 8:40 am I don't think it is the colour so much - more that when I see a home with all the living areas tiled I too immediately think of it as looking more modern and streamlined then say either timber / carpet / vinyl which I think can look either modern or traditional. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: tile choice 5Mar 07, 2012 6:36 pm Yes I agree with Kyton. If you like it, use it. We have a grey tile right through and charcoal in the bathrooms, wc. That tile is gorgeous and you will not see all of the footprints on it. When people come in and take their shoes off, some of them leave footprints on the floor, drives me crazy. Good point. I just assumed the sales guy meant the tile was ultra-modern itself, rather than the look of the house itself. Ultra-modern wasn't my first thought when I saw the tile. My first thought was "It won't show dirt easily!!!" My second thought was "And it's not super glossy, yes!" I do agree that's it's probably not traditional porcelain tile, but it's certainly not crazy "out-there" either. Michelle Yes I agree with Kyton. If you like it, use it. Thank you. I think we will. Feel better now deb17 I like them allot. We have a grey tile right through and charcoal in the bathrooms, wc. That tile is gorgeous and you will not see all of the footprints on it. A friend has polished porcelain tiles and she hates them now because they show every sweep/mop mark. I think the polished tiles still look great, but I figured I should learn from her experience because I know the mop mark thing would grate on me too after a while. 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block).
