Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 04, 2012 12:08 pm Hi We are considering getting a bamboo floor as it seems to be harder than wood and we like the look of it. I know a few people have had it laid on this site a while ago and wondered what your experiences were with it so far. Is it as hardwearing as they say, does it show the dirt and marks easily? If you've got any pictures to show that would be nice. Also if you're pleased with yours and you live in Melbourne where did you purchase it from and what sort of price would you expect to pay? Many thanks for any replies. Flew Re: How are you all getting on with Bamboo Flooring? 2Mar 04, 2012 7:06 pm They look good when clean but unfortunately if you walk through the house in bare feet you'll end up with smirched floors that show up in the light. The floors are easy to clean with an Enjo mop and a light spray with water but unless you're illing to wear socks all the time you will have to put up with feet marks. Re: How are you all getting on with Bamboo Flooring? 5Mar 05, 2012 10:32 am Hi Could it be the varnish which is causing the smudgy marks and not the bamboo itself? Has anyone here got bamboo which doesn't seem to get smudge marks and looks okay in the light? If so what make is it and what kind of surface did you get i.e. Gloss/Matt/satin sheen? Many thanks Flew Re: How are you all getting on with Bamboo Flooring? 6Mar 05, 2012 11:16 am flew Hi Could it be the varnish which is causing the smudgy marks and not the bamboo itself? Many thanks Flew We would be interested in this information as well. We want a low maintenance floor and are considering polished concrete, bamboo or vinyl for our knockdown rebuild. We have 17 year old sheet vinyl in our present house. It still looks good and is so easy to care for. My practical side says stick to what you know works but I think bamboo would look better in one area of the new house and we could then match the stairs to the floor. If anyone has light coloured, non-glossy bamboo, I'd love to hear if it smudges. Also has anyone had problems with bamboo in high humidity? Hi Flew, You cold look at the Naturally Bamboo range which has a 35% gloss level. It's not a matt finish as such, but it is not super high gloss either. Light source has a lot to do with what you see and what you don't too. Best wishes for your flooring project. He seemed quite pigheaded about it and it really took the wind out of our sails so to speak about choosing it, though I am hardly just going to go by his word I'd rather hear a few real homeowners verdicts. The quality and experience you have with your bamboo flooring, like all products in life will really all come down to who you get your flooring from. If they have been having so many issues with it, I question their supplier. The more issues they have with the product the more likely that they have not purchased their product from a reputable supplier. The quality of the bamboo flooring of course depends on the bamboo plant harvested; whether it has reached full maturity and processed correctly. In terms of the smudgy footprints on the flooring, it depends on varnish level and is not because of the actual bamboo itself. Semi gloss finishes are less likely to leave marks.
