Hi all,
I am about to build my first home and i'm tossing up between the wood look laminate/ vinyl planks (im not sure if that's what they're called.. they go down in planks but have the wood look printed on the top?) or tiles in the entry/ kitchen/ living and dining area. I am thinking i would like the ash grey coloured 'wood' as I dont really like the dark Jarrah or the more yellow/ orange coloured wood looks.
I went and looked at some show homes on the weekend, some were real wood, some were the laminate/ vinyl planks, and i could honestly not tell the difference - and from what i've heard they are very hard wearing. So i ran this past my dad who is helping me with all the 'dad' related stuff that he knows about, and he basicaly said he's had nothing but trouble with them.
He has them in the family home in the kitchen, so does 2 family friends and all of them have had issues with them swelling etc from moisture and ending up looking dreadful, after only 4 years, whether it be from moisture in the air or just from the weekly mopping of the floors.
I dont want to lay these in my house if they arent going to perform as i hoped.
Does anyone have any experience with these, and am i better off just putting in tiles?
