Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: Redbook ecology green corn carpet 2Feb 12, 2012 11:42 am Silvergum Hi everyone, Does anybody have this carpet, we are considering for our build. Interested in hearing others feedback of it. Its a plush carpet and lovely underfoot. Thanks Hi Silvergum, If you have a read of a couple of the posts on this subject below you will see references to Smartstrand. Smartstrand is the original 37% corn content carpet, made in America by the worlds largest flooring manufacturer. The local variants came out later from Godfrey Hirst & Feltex using a solution dyed variation. From a comparative standpoint, you could look at Godfrey Hirsts Eco + & Redbook Green as they are the similar technology. ( same factory, same parent company ) and then the Smarstrand as another technology option. Smartstrand is based on cutting edge fusion manufacturing, whilst the others are simply solution dyed technology. There is a beautiful plush pile in the Smarstrand range, named Smarstrand Iq150 Plush with over 30 colours to choose from. It has a lifetime warranty on stains and is warranted against nasty spills of cordial, mustard, sauce and red wine, to name a few. Best wishes for your flooring project. As HN has pointed out Redbook & Godfrey Hirst are both using Solution Dyed Sorona. Not sure if pointing out that Mohawk are the Biggest Carpet manufacturer in the World will sway you in your purchase, but I personally can't see any advantage. Godfrey Hirst/Feltex are the biggest Carpet manufacturer in Australia, doesn't mean others don't make good carpet. Maybe try them all out & see what you personally think. Warranties aside, It would be interesting to see if it could be proven if the White Sorona is really able to Perform in Stain resistance & UV as well as the SDN locally made Sorona. Hi gizmoe, Australian Consumer Law changes effective 01/01/2012 take warranties very seriously and protect customers from false warranties. Indeed there are serious and far reaching ramifications for any reseller who gets it wrong. In this case, Harvey Norman and our brand partner Mohawk, take this matter very seriously and are proud to offer a product to Australian consumers that is superior to any other textile fibre in the world. Smartstrand Silk takes the whole Smarstrand offer up another notch and it leaves such a gap between itself and other products in the market that anyone (including those who don't have it to sell) will have to aknowledge just how good it really is. Consumers will be the ultimate judge, as they have already been the judge about Smartstrand IQ150. The huge number of kilometres installed Australia wide (eastern seaboard) of this product would stun you It is well past proven. The warranties it carries are indeed impressive and the fact they come from the worlds largest flooring company (supported by Australia's largest homewares retailer) carries much weight and is important information that supports the superiority of the fibre. You have to replace it under warranty? That doesn't prove it will do what it states, merely if it doesnt it will be replaced. Based on how many people have installed the product in their properties, How many will really bother to chase up the warranty if it doesnt perform? How many will still live in that property & need to use the lifetime warranty? How many will replace it because the colour doesn't suit the new renovation or coat of paint? How many will replace it because they just want something new to keep up with the Neighbours? I think Sorona is a great fibre, I like the feel of it, I like the cleaning properties of it, I like that it is made more to a standard than to a price, I like that it is Green for a plastic although I have not seen the Cradle to the Grave Statistics on it, However overselling anything is something that I'm wary of & I don't want to ever give my customers an Unrealistic expectation of what I am selling them. I never tell anyone something is stainproof, wear proof etc as you can always wreck anything. Mohawk did a great PR exercise with the Zoo Challenge in the States & I have talked to a dealer who inspected the carpet & confirmed it passes the Cleaning test with flying colours, but he did also mention that it didnt come close to passing on the smell test. I was in the States for Surfaces 2012 & I visited the Mohawk display & Silk looks brillant & felt sensational, but I'm still not going to tell a customer that its 100% proof as a manufacturers warranty doesnt make me look good if I'm proven wrong. Thanks Gizmoe, Perhaps we will meet at a Domotex or a Surfaces one day. In the meantime, it was said recently by someone who has been in this industry for a long time and holds a very senior role that you cannot judge today's products by yesterday's standards, that you cannot judge today's product by yesterday's experiences and that if you continue to look back then you are very likely to miss the future.......all very true and interesting thoughts in how they pertain to innovation and revolutionary products in our industry.
