Hi,
I notice carpet tacks sticking out from the transition of the carpet area to the tiled area and some of them stick a lot. Enough to injure oneself. Surely this can't be normal? Should I just hammer the tacks down or is this a bad installation?

When we have to repair these areas we were taught to remove the strip and to directly stick the carpet down using carpet glue a lot safer and lasts longer. If you have to pull up the carpet no problems we just use a scraper but you will not be able to relay the carpet. I have training videos on all of this but they are to long to post on here. If we are doing a new install we will use tackless strips and glue the carpet to it but only in walk way traffic areas this is the Australian standard of carpet laying. Craig I don't doubt anything you are saying, but I would definitely like to see your copy of the Australian Standards & the line that states installing carpet onto tackless strips with adhesive bonding. You could do something like that as a Turn & Tack type install, stretch the carpet upto the gripper & then Staple the carpet between the pile to the wood strips. When installing Coir & Sisal it has been recommended to staple the carpet to the gripper. As for installing carpet against tiles, that is a valid point with the height issues that an installer can come across. I have also installed commercial gripper, flattened the pins, installed the aluminium pinned multipurpose base onto that to remedy the height issue then once installed, the pvc capping sits nice & flat as it would if using thinner ceramic tiles. In saying that sometimes we can not remove the tack strip as it can cause damage to the concrete or there will be a different height to where it meets the tiles etc so we will tap the nails down than glue the carpet onto the tack strip. Please note as I mentioned above if you tap the nails down than there is no way the carpet will hold in a traffic area and it will only get worse over time and the tack strip will be visable. Craig Sorry craig you are miss informed. The Australian standards are to use the timber smoothedge against tiles.carpet spikes just need to be tapped down.30 years of experience Take a pick with a level sittingo n the slab and a pick with a level sitting on the sill please. This will help us diagnose the issue and therefore a solution. RE,… 8 9392 1 11004 1 15753 |
