Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 04, 2012 12:01 am Hi All Thinking about putting solid T&G timber in our new build. At the moment tossing up between Grey Ironbak and Spotted gum. Just wanting to get the facts straight before we start construction. We will probably go with direct stick therefore what thickness of boards should we looking at. I thought the standard thickness was about 19mm but I am being quoted 12mm. Will this be thick enough to sand back and refinish over the years. We are looking to go with timber because it can be resanded and come up like new. I know it needs a little more care than tiles but I figure that it's classic and never goes out of style where tile fashion changes quite a lot over time. Also what finish is the best,ie gloss vs satin, waterbased vs polyurethane. We need hardwearing with 2 littlies and teenagers I want a finish that is not going to show every little scratch. I have had Jarrah boards before with a semi gloss finish and that tended to show all the scratches and that was before kids . Plus any other useful info would be great. Thanks for your help Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8289 2 4657 |
