Do you need a screed? Anything special about laying sandstone tiles? Won;t they wear quickly? Our tiles are being layed for a lot less than that and they are 300x600 rectangle rectified edge tiles. BLOG: thehousewebuilt2010.blogspot.com (And are still building!) The are a bit thicker than normal tiles. They will be sealed after laying (already paid for sealing so its not included in the quote). Apparently they need to hire a different tile cutter, but I still think its an inflated price.... The tiles are to be layed on 2x balconies on a new build, and they have already been waterproofed by the builder. We didn't like their tile offerings so have supplied our own. Wasn't expecting to cough up another $6300 to lay them given that laying the basic tiles was included in the house price. I would get a couple of other quotes. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 $105 psqm to lay tiles ???????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!! 7Feb 07, 2012 9:47 pm I have been quoted around the $50 per m2 for laying. Under time constraints (tiling holding up other trades) so couldn't shop around H's Emperor Q1 on acreage Site cut 16/6/11 Slab 2/8 Frame 29/8 Tiles 9/9 Bricks 13/10 Plaster 2/11 Fittings 28/11 PCI 19/3 Re: $105 psqm to lay tiles ???????????????????????????!!!!!! 9Feb 08, 2012 3:33 pm That price sounds pretty fair to me. Sandstone tiles normally come in various thicknesess, so the tiler will have to spend time grading the tiles (match the tiles with the same thickness). Then you have to use more adhesive with sandstone than you would with ceramic tiles because of the different thickness. Sandstone tiles can only be cut with an electric wet saw which take much longer than when cutting ceramic tiles with a scribe cutter. Finally the sandstone tiles may need to be sealed prior to grouting. And on top of all that you are having the tiles layed in a diamond pattern. So as you can see there is a lot more work involved with laying sandstone tiles as appose to ceramic or vitrified tiles. Re: $105 psqm to lay tiles ???????????????????????????!!!!!! 10Feb 08, 2012 4:08 pm No grinding was required, sealing and the patterned cut were agreed to as part of the contract, so no change there.
