Sandstone tiles normally come in various thicknesess, so the tiler will have to spend time grading the tiles (match the tiles with the same thickness). Then you have to use more adhesive with sandstone than you would with ceramic tiles because of the different thickness. Sandstone tiles can only be cut with an electric wet saw which take much longer than when cutting ceramic tiles with a scribe cutter. Finally the sandstone tiles may need to be sealed prior to grouting. And on top of all that you are having the tiles layed in a diamond pattern. So as you can see there is a lot more work involved with laying sandstone tiles as appose to ceramic or vitrified tiles. Re: $105 psqm to lay tiles ???????????????????????????!!!!!! 10Feb 08, 2012 4:08 pm No grinding was required, sealing and the patterned cut were agreed to as part of the contract, so no change there.
